The Direct Materials/Commodity Business Manager reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions. Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing, planning and engineering departments to acquire inventory in a cost effective and timely manner. Processes purchase requisitions, purchase change orders and requests for quotes to suppliers. Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity; creates and maintains bills of material and parts/commodities numbers in supply chain management or other enterprise wide systems. Participates in maximizing the procurement teams' changes, part parameters; quote table maintenance, supplier database information, error report analysis, and part number/supplier code information. Performs cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities (e.g., materials, components, equipment and services). Monitors the cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to negotiate highest quality at best value. Develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive. May recommend cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis or alternative sourcing. Interacts closely with suppliers and QA to resolve quality issues. Works with management to address all aspects of commodity management, including procurement support, commodity business plans, market trends assessment, pricing, and product availability. Requires domestic or global expertise of assigned commodities.

You Will:

  • Investigate and identify areas for cost savings throughout the organization.
  • Identify process and system gaps and determine needed resources, timeline, and requirements to streamline and/or automate.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies and tactics to improve purchasing for new and existing requirements, both inventory and non-inventory.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators to monitor Procurement performance: maximize service levels, optimize resource allocation, reduce costs, and mitigate business risks.
  • Build and maintain robust supplier relationships.
  • Maintain supplier qualification program and conduct supplier performance evaluation(scorecards).
  • Work closely with supply chain leadership and cross-functional teams to develop and prioritize project initiatives that add stakeholder value.
  • Works closely with contiguous departments, i.e. Clinical, Marketing, R&D to ensure implementation meets business and internal/external customer requirements.
  • Gain alignment from managers and stakeholders regarding process change activities•Work with IT and related resources to optimize data integrity and develop new reporting tools as required.
  • Lead key departmental projects by developing and utilizing in-depth knowledge of business processes and systems as well as project management skills.
  • Identifies and drives process improvements that involve and impact internal and external customers.
  • Align activities, goals and objectives with the strategic goals and key priorities identified by the company.
  • Assists Director in communication of procurement strategies and goals to the organization, and drives adherence to policy compliance.
  • Regularly update management, team members, and stakeholders on project status, key decisions, issues, and results.
  • The position requires cross functional coordination across GRAIL's global operations and often external resources including suppliers, consultants, or other stakeholders in the management of assigned projects.
  • Work with management to develop or negotiate contracts to ensure optimal cost structures, delivery performance, and service levels.
  • Provide support to short term interests that may arise from time to time due to unexpected circumstances (e.g. problem with a supplier, logistical issue, or other system or process failure).
  • Execute as a significant individual contributor to the project and / or lead others through project plans.
  • Assist the Director in establishing, managing, and reporting financial budgets as they relate to Procurement spend activity.
  • Manage, coach and mentor buyers in developing new skills and strengthening team relationships.
  • Results will be measured in cost savings, inventory reductions, customer service, risk mitigation, productivity improvements, and demonstration of corporate values.

Your Background Should Include:

  • Ability to energize and influence cross functional project teams and individuals including internal and external resources at all levels.
  • High degree of initiative and ownership, attention to detail, and the discipline to follow through on assigned tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a rapidly changing environment.
  • MS Office and other applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Visio,) and ERP systems to support project work, and effective management reporting and presentations.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
