What the Onboarding Process Is Like at Philo

What was the onboarding process like for you, and what was your favorite part?

I came to Philo as a temporary contractor through a staffing agency. The team was very welcoming and open to my operational management style, and they were excited to bring me onboard. Once I came onboard, the official onboarding meetings and training sessions were inclusive, informative and engaging. I was excited to see another side of how my team operates and how I will eventually support them in these aspects of onboarding.

“The team was very welcoming and open to my operational management style, and they were excited to bring me onboard.”

What pleasantly surprised you after you joined?

Coming onboard, I was very attentive to areas of the office that would benefit from a little extra attention. After implementing a handful of changes in the first few weeks, I was pleasantly surprised to see how excited the team was to see these changes, from adding food dispensers in the kitchen for a cleaner way to enjoy snacks to re-designing the layout of the office’s game room to be more inviting for others to congregate and enjoy each other’s company.

How Philo’s Culture Helps New Employees Make an Impact Quickly

When did you know you made the right choice in joining your company?

This may sound cheesy, but I knew I made the right choice after my first day. My calendar had a handful of meetings where I was introduced to a few people, and jumping right into the thick of it made me feel like I had been here for some time. I quickly got up to date with projects that were in the works and important items that needed attention.

What the Office and Culture Manager Role Looks Like at Philo

How have you hit the ground running since you joined, and what are you most excited to accomplish over the next quarter or year?

On my first day, my afternoon was pretty open. I decided to take advantage of the spare time I had and began restocking and taking inventory of the office snacks and office supplies. This instantly gave me a clearer idea of what was an immediate need and what could be placed on the back burner. This later snowballed into a wave of new additions I would bring to the office and I’m continuing to take note of what the team is enjoying and what isn’t a fan favorite. I plan to use this as a stepping stone for in-office events, team outings and larger-scale team events like our upcoming Gathering Week, where our company travels to our headquarters in San Francisco for a week full of team-building, collaborating and fun.

What aspect of your professional growth are you most excited to evolve?

This is the first time in my professional career where I can truly take the reins on a lot of aspects of our work environment. I have always said that my favorite part of my job is to make sure people can actually have fun at work, and I can tell that my teammates at Philo are on the same page as me!
