Position Description

PIMCO is continuing to invest in and expand its Defined Contribution (DC) institutional business and is adding an Account Manager, Institutional Defined Contribution Sales, to support growth in the mega and large plan segment. This is a newly created role within a high‑priority initiative, offering the opportunity to help shape how PIMCO deepens its presence in the DC market.

In this role, you will play a key role in advancing DC growth by strengthening PIMCO’s influence with field‑level consultants at major consulting firms, while partnering closely with Consultant Relations and Institutional Sales Account Managers. The role is designed for someone who is energized by building momentum, identifying where influence matters most, and translating that influence into meaningful plan adoption over time.

As part of a visible and well‑resourced growth effort, this role works in close collaboration with Consultant Relations and the broader institutional sales organization to expand PIMCO’s DC footprint, with the flexibility to evolve coverage approaches as the business continues to scale.

Location

New York, NY, Newport Beach, CA, or Austin, TX

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to,

  • Build and execute a field consultant coverage strategy, in close partnership with Consultant Relations and Institutional Sales Account Managers, across large national consulting firms (e.g., Mercer/WTW/Aon), to drive AUM and revenue growth, improve consultant ratings, and expand PIMCO’s DC penetration across channels through clear prioritization, engagement cadence, and measurable outcomes.

  • Influence DC recommendations by translating PIMCO’s DC platform, investment capabilities, and positioning into consultant-ready narratives and plan-level solutions.

  • Partner with Consultant Relations and Institutional Sales account teams to align on firmwide strategy (home office + research coverage) and amplify impact with bottom-up field engagement.

  • Develop a disciplined pipeline across consultant channels and selective plan sponsor opportunities, tracking progress from early-stage influence through funded wins.

  • Provide market and competitor intelligence on DC consulting dynamics, platform trends, and buyer/committee behavior to inform go-to-market strategy.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Strategy, Portfolio teams, Marketing, and leadership to deliver coordinated, client-centric DC solutions.

  • Represent PIMCO at relevant industry events and in targeted consultant forums to deepen credibility and visibility.

  • Travel as needed to support consultant and client engagement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree. MBA or CFA designation is desirable.

  • 10+ years of experience in the institutional DC ecosystem, with direct evidence of consultant influence (especially field consultants) driving plan adoption and asset growth.

  • Established relationships and credibility with consultants and DC decision-makers; ability to navigate both consultant and sponsor stakeholders.

  • Strong grasp of DC plan structures and investment implementation (e.g., QDIA, core lineup design, capital preservation, income/decumulation considerations, operational/platform realities).

  • Track record of building repeatable coverage models (territory/firm strategy, prioritization, activity discipline, pipeline conversion).

  • Executive presence and the ability to communicate investment solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to operate effectively in a matrix and partner across teams; high integrity and strong judgment.

  • Series 3, 7 and 63 required.
