About Cadre AI

Cadre AI is an AI strategy and integration firm that partners deeply with organizations to transform workflows, streamline operations, and deliver measurable business outcomes. We operate at the intersection of strategy, engineering, and adoption—ensuring AI delivers real, lasting impact for the B2B companies we serve.

The Role

The AI Engineer Intern is a hands-on, learning-forward role embedded directly in Cadre AI’s engineering work. You won’t be writing documentation or sitting in on meetings as a spectator. You’ll be building, testing, and shipping alongside our AI team—contributing to the real systems we deploy for clients.

This is a part-time role (10–15 hours per week) designed for a student or early-career engineer who is serious about building AI systems, not just learning about them. You’ll get direct exposure to production-grade LLM pipelines, agent frameworks, and data tooling—and you’ll work day-to-day with engineers who use AI to build AI. This is an unpaid, semester internship for students seeking course credit.

What You’ll Do

Build and Test AI Systems
  • Help set up and test AI agent systems and orchestration tooling
  • Assist in designing and running RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) pipelines for our knowledge bases
  • Support the creation of memory systems that allow AI models to use past interactions for future decision-making
  • Help build tools to track AI performance and catch quality issues before they reach clients

Work With Data and Models
  • Work with team members to extract and organize data from text and other document types
  • Take part in error analysis to identify and solve issues with model outputs
  • Join feedback sessions and apply guidance to improve AI model behavior

Who You Are

  • Currently studying computer science, data science, or a closely related field
  • Comfortable writing Python and motivated to learn new tools quickly
  • Curious about AI and actively keeping up with new models, techniques, and frameworks
  • You ask questions, take direction from mentors, and follow through on what you commit to
  • Comfortable working independently on defined tasks and collaborating effectively when the work requires it

What Sets You Apart

  • Some hands-on experience building AI or ML projects—class projects, hackathons, or personal work all count
  • Familiarity with basic LLM concepts or simple agent frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, DSPy, or similar)
  • Experience creating or working with datasets for training or evaluation purposes
  • A habit of looking at real outputs to find errors—you’re not satisfied until you understand why something went wrong
  • A drive to try new ideas quickly, learn from the results, and iterate

Our Tech Stack

  • Backend: Python, FastAPI
  • Persistence: PostgreSQL with pgvector
  • Frontend: React, Next.js
  • Infrastructure: Render (PaaS), Supabase, Vercel, AWS
  • AI Tools: LiteLLM, DSPy
  • Observability: Langfuse
  • Developer Tools: Claude Code, Cursor

Why Cadre AI

  • Real exposure, not busywork. You’ll work on production AI systems alongside engineers who take craft seriously. Every task connects to something that ships.
  • Front-row seat. You’ll work day-to-day with the people building and running one of the fastest-growing AI consulting firms in the country.
  • AI-native culture. We don’t just build AI for clients. We use it to run our own operations. You’ll learn how a team actually works with these tools at the frontier.
  • Room to grow. Strong interns get more responsibility. This is a proving ground, not a placeholder.
