Founding technical role to design, build, and deploy internal AI tools and agents using LLMs and retrieval systems. Partner with investors and the data team to accelerate sourcing, diligence, portfolio insights, and define CRV's AI strategy through rapid prototyping and production-grade systems.
The summary above was generated by AI
CRV is securing the future by spearheading early investments in tomorrow's AI enterprises. A respected venture capital firm, they have been a leader in Seed and Series A Rounds since 1970. CRV invests in, supports, and partners with engineering and AI-focused companies, with a specific focus on AI infrastructure, automation, and foundational models.
CRV is hiring their first AI Engineering Lead, a founding technical role to reimagine how a top venture firm operates in the AI era.
This is a top strategic priority for the CRV partnership. They are looking for a high-agency builder who can harness frontier models to supercharge how the firm finds, evaluates, and supports the next generation of iconic companies.
You’ll work directly with investing partners and the CRV data team to build internal tools, workflows, and agents that give them an edge, from sourcing founders earlier to accelerating investment research and portfolio insights.
Your Role
  • Build and deploy internal tools that make our team 10× more effective, from sourcing agents to research copilots.
  • Explore the edge of what’s possible with current models (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-weight systems) and make them useful in a venture context.
  • Shape the AI strategy for CRV: what we build, what we buy, and where we experiment next.
  • This is a unique opportunity to be the first engineer building the backbone of a top VC's internal AI systems. You’ll experiment fast, prototype ambitiously, and spearhead the roadmap for how CRV uses AI across sourcing, diligence, portfolio support, and internal operations.

You Might Be a Fit If You
→ Are a product-minded engineer or former founder who thrives on zero-to-one challenges
→ Have shipped production-grade tools using LLMs, embeddings, or retrieval systems
→ Are fluent in Python/TypeScript and modern ML/infra stacks (OpenAI, Anthropic, Vercel, LanceDB, etc.)
→ Obsess over user experience — the “magic” moments where AI feels like intuition
→ Are based in SF Bay Area and want to work side-by-side with investors in-office
Compensation
Base Salary Range: $150K – $300K annually
Carry: This role may be eligible for participation in the firm’s carried interest program, subject to the terms of applicable plans and agreements.
Benefits & Other Compensation
CRV offers a comprehensive benefits package, which may include:
  • employer-paid medical (which includes an HSA and an HRA),
  • dental insurance,
  • vision insurance,
  • company-sponsored Healthcare FSA,
  • company-sponsored profit sharing and 401(k) plans,
  • company-paid group life insurance,
  • company-reimbursed group disability insurance,
  • employer-paid parking,
  • health club reimbursement

Work Location
This position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and is expected to be performed primarily in-office.
