AI Machine Learning Manager

We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Software Development Tech Lead Manager with deep expertise in AI and Machine Learning. This is a critical leadership role responsible for championing and integrating cutting-edge AI technologies across PayZen's entire ecosystem - from our patient-facing products to our internal operational tools.

You will lead the architecture, development, and delivery of intelligent, production-ready systems that leverage large language models (LLMs) and true Agentic AI orchestration. You will be responsible for forming and mentoring a high-performing engineering team based in our San Francisco office.

You will help drive technical innovation by translating the latest research in LLMs and Agents into scalable, compliant production features that directly solve the affordability crisis in healthcare.

• Build, grow, and mentor a strong team of AI and backend engineers.

• Define and pioneer the deployment of Generative AI capabilities within our core product features.

• Design and implement chat-based AI agents powered by LLMs and orchestration frameworks (e.g., ReAct, LangChain, AutoGPT).

• Champion internal AI initiatives by identifying and delivering high-ROI automation tools for our Operations and Finance teams.

• Translate complex product requirements into scalable technical architectures that prioritize compliance and reliability.

• Deliver robust, reliable systems all the way to production with exceptional scalability, security, monitoring, and performance.

• Define and enforce best practices for LLM testing, observability, and safe deployment in a regulated industry.

• Lead development of ML/AI pipelines for data processing, training, and inference.

• Collaborate with ML/Infra teams to optimize model experimentation and deployment velocity.

• Work closely with Product, Data Science, and Design teams to define clear goals and execution plans for AI features.

• Act as the technical authority for AI, communicating trade-offs and driving consensus among stakeholders and leadership.

• 7+ years of hands-on software development experience

• 5+ years of Machine Learning experience

• 2+ years building and managing high performing engineering teams

• Proven experience delivering AI-powered systems to production

• Experience building AI agents or chat-based LLM applications

• Proficiency in TypeScript (preferred), Python, or other modern languages

• Experience with frameworks like OpenAI APIs, LangChain

• Strong understanding of cloud environments (AWS), Docker, CI/CD
