Base Annual Salary: $152,506

Description: The Applications Engineer Lead provides technical training and development to applications engineering teams within DMG MORI. The Applications Engineer Lead is also responsible for developing and enhancing Applications Engineers to equip them with the technical ability to complete time studies, test cuts and machine demonstrations as per customer requirements, as well as leading and assisting in customer projects and working closely with the applications engineering team to train and develop local product and project knowledge. The Applications Engineer Lead is responsible for the following duties: 25% Development Tasks: Develop and train Applications Engineers to conduct time estimates for customer parts with 10% tolerance. Knowledge transfer to generate CNC programs for parts processing; Assist in setting priorities with knowledge of company goals with Applications Engineering Manager. 25% Hands on Tasks; Define and assist in troubleshooting complex manufacturing/machining processes; Support Applications Engineers in the setup of CNC machines with program, tooling, workpiece, and fixtures including 5-axis and automation, inspection of finished parts for quality and accuracy; Work independently on project requirements and lead colleagues to achieve project achievement. 20% Pre-Sales: Generate order intake; consulting customers on technical needs together with Applications engineers and ASM; Generate engineering proposals for process and turnkey applications; Support in designing and fabricating fixtures/ work holding for demo’s, test cuts, and turnkeys; Communicate with factory personnel as needed for technical support. 30% Post-Sales: Generate engineering reports and technical documentation; Assist in managing projects until final acceptance of the project; Train customers on equipment after installation; Communicate with factory personnel as needed for technical support.
Minimum Requirements:
- BS Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or related field preferred, and/or machining knowledge.
- Knowledge and experience to provide technical training and development to applications and engineering teams within DMG MORI. Develop and enhance Applications Engineers to equip them with the technical ability to complete time studies, test cuts and machine demonstrations as per customer requirements.
- 50% travel to customer and DMG MORI sites in California and other states on an as-needed basis.
- 8 years' experience required in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
- At least 8 yrs of experience with 5-axis CNC milling machines, Siemens CNC controls, Heidenhain ITNC CNC controls
- At least 4 yrs of experience of Vericut, Siemens High Level Language Macro Programming, and Siemens NX CAM/Modelling.
Work Environment:
Exposure to manufacturing/machining environments which may present possible hazards such as noise, electricity, chemicals, heavy equipment, and other automated and manual machinery. General office environment experienced at DMG MORI office.
Physical Demands:
Frequent: Travel, operating a vehicle, standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, sitting and reaching. Pushing, pulling, and lifting objects. Repetitive foot, leg, hand, arm, shoulder, and torso movements.
Periodic: Operating power equipment, sitting at desk, utilizing computers and phones.
Occasional: Lifting or moving up to 50lbs.
