The Applied AI Engineer will work with language models to create applications, manage the model alpha program with OpenAI, conduct experiments, and influence policies.
The summary above was generated by AI

We’re inventing the future of B2B SaaS with AI agents. We’re betting on language models and we’re betting on scale. You’ll test new models the day they come out and understand their characteristics better than their developers do.

You’ll manage our model alpha program with OpenAI, and work directly with their research and product teams to discover unknown capabilities in new models.

You’ll work directly with customers every day and have unusual influence over operations and policy-making at the world’s biggest companies.

Responsibilities

  • Turn language models into useful, functional, and beautiful products.

  • Scope and implement entirely novel applications of AI agents (adversarial webcrawling, weapons identification, red-teaming, ingredient extraction, etc.)

  • Architect and implement workflows that power SafetyKit's risk AI agents

  • Design and conduct rigorous experiments to evaluate models' relative strengths, weaknesses, and optimal use cases

  • Use codegen models to move 10x faster than you did two years ago

About you

  • You love language models.

  • You have the patience to be rigorous.

  • You act like an owner in everything you do.

  • People tell you you pick things up unusually quickly.

  • You love the weird little details of life in our customer’s companies.

  • You care about your work and you care about moving fast. A lot.

  • You know more than you need to know. You have an insatiable curiosity.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
