At Aircapture we’re creating and scaling a circular carbon economy to solve what we believe to be our lifetime's most pressing challenge: The climate crisis. We supply commercial and industrial customers with clean CO2 captured from our atmosphere to radically improve the environment, our economy, and our lives. We value building a team of people who represent diverse backgrounds--be it thought, education, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation--to reach our goals. Thank you for considering us.

You will work with contributors across all levels of the company, ranging from C-suite executives to your fellow interns. Your goal will be to implement AI-driven solutions that reduce friction, improve efficiency, and persist well beyond their initial deployment. You will have ownership of your projects, with the freedom to identify and pursue opportunities that are exciting to you. If you are looking for a project-based internship where you can gain hands-on experience and see your work create real-world impact, this is the role for you!

Please write a cover letter, without using AI, explaining what kinds of challenges you are excited to solve at Aircapture (including how ironic this request is). Include your experience with obstinate systems.

This is a full time, Summer opportunity at our research and development facility in Berkeley, California.

Pay rate: $35 per hour, plus up to $400 in travel reimbursement for those relocating from outside of the Bay Area.

What You’ll Do Here

  • Use AI tools to develop custom applications, retrieval systems, agents, and workflows
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify opportunities for optimization and automation
  • Set up predictive modeling, forecasting, and anomaly detection to help teams make quick, well-informed decisions
  • Partner with stakeholders throughout the company to identify opportunities to streamline or automate
  • Evaluate and iterate AI outputs for accuracy, reliability, and real-world usability
  • Empower your teammates to better understand and leverage their AI tools, “teach them how to fish”

Your Skills and Abilities Include

  • Currently pursuing a master's degree or PhD in computer science, machine learning, data science, engineering, statistics, or a related field
  • Expertise building practical tools using modern AI frameworks and LLM applications (we use ChatGPT, Claude, Notion AI, Gemini)
  • Experience creating and hosting scripts that leverage APIs to connect platforms and automate workflows
  • Ability to identify and mitigate cybersecurity risks associated with multi-platform workflows
  • Skilled in creating clear documentation and coaching colleagues in new tool usage
  • Ability to independently scope and execute projects

Example Projects (your actual projects will depend on where you can make the biggest impact):

  • Identify bottlenecks in our data pipelines and streamline them to improve speed and reliability
  • Create dashboards that communicate project status, system performance, and progress toward operational milestones
  • Develop models that detect anomalies and predict CO₂ production and equipment performance
  • Analyze operational data to identify relationships between process parameters and recommend optimal operating conditions
  • Build a company-wide AI knowledge assistant that answers queries and provides citations
  • Build an agent that generates editable electrical schematics given a list of I/Os
  • Create a lightweight in-house Part Lifecycle Management system to automate part maturity tracking and visibility
  • Lead an AI tool workshop to empower more efficiency across the company

Aircapture strives to create a safe, inclusive, equitable and diverse workplace. Every teammate adds to who we are, diversifying our ideas, experiences and viewpoints and makes us stronger. We hope you feel welcome here.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
