The Assistant Controller works collaboratively with the Controller to manage the Bank’s accounting operations, regulatory reporting, control framework, and wire processes. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Assistant Controller also provides supervision for certain accounting staff and contributes to financial analysis and planning. They are responsible for personnel management and operational accounting functions.

Essential Functions

  • Accounting Operations:
    • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements including financial reports for management, Board of Directors reports, annual report, and ad hoc financial projects and reports as needed including preparing special accounting reports for management or for audit/regulatory authorities.
    • Manage daily accounting functions, including journal entries, reconciliations, tax, accounts payable, fixed assets, accruals, and ledger maintenance.
    • Lead the month-end close process and ensure accuracy of financial data. Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.
    • Recommend and implement methods and procedures to improve department efficiency.
    • Assist in establishing and implementing financial controls and policies to comply with regulatory and GAAP requirements as well as established best practices.
    • Assist in the planning process by providing financial data and variance analyses to management to support strategic planning and budgeting efforts.
  • Regulatory Reporting:
    • Prepare and manage compilation of quarterly and annual financial regulatory filings including Call Reports, FDIC Summary of Deposits, Escheatment reporting, and other regulatory reports as required.
    • Report all unclaimed property to State(s) and escheat at the appropriate time(s).
    • Monitor changes in regulatory reporting requirements and assist in implementing necessary changes to comply
  • Management:
    • Supervise and mentor accounting staff; ensure adherence to policies and deadlines.
    • Work closely with departments across the bank to support accurate financial data and reporting.
    • Direct supervisor of the accounting/wire transfer team, handling performance management, career development and work flow to ensure maximum service levels are maintained at all times and tasks are completed as required and within established guidelines.
    • Serve as a key contact for internal and external audits and examinations.
    • Assist in the documentation and testing of internal controls and FDICIA procedures.
    • Attend internal and external management meetings and represent the Bank at external functions and activities.
  • Wire Transfer:
    • Manage finance related wire processes and ensure accurate document maintenance.
    • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures for finance related wire operations and systems.
  • Non-Essential Functions:
    • Perform special projects and research as assigned.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field and 5-7 years accounting related experience, including 1 year of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
  • Excellent math skills with an attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze conditions and reach an independent decision.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize duties when faced with requests, demands and deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.

Compensation 

The hiring range for this position is to $80,000 to $115,000 annually. The compensation offered will fall within this range, commensurate with the candidate's applicable experience, education and skills.
