Job Description

We set and achieve bold ambitions in our fight against the world’s most devastating diseases, united in our commitment to confronting the largest public health challenges of our day and improving the lives of patients for generations to come.  As an Associate Director, Brand Operations at Gilead you are responsible for making Gilead’s corporate brand easier to access, understand, and apply consistently across the enterprise.

This role combines brand fluency with operational discipline, supporting the development and implementation of Gilead’s brand expression and identity system while managing the tools, guidance, workflows, and governance needed to scale the brand effectively.

The Associate Director will partner across Communications, Digital, Legal, Procurement, and agency teams to translate brand strategy into practical resources, creative briefs, execution standards, and day-to-day guidance.

Success in this role means becoming a trusted go-to resource for the corporate brand, helping teams and agency partners apply it with greater clarity, consistency, and confidence. The Associate Director will protect brand non-negotiables with sound judgment, while championing creative exploration that aligns with flexible brand standards. They will help teams understand where consistency is required, where adaptation is appropriate, and how to apply the brand in ways that improve the work while building stronger brand fluency across the enterprise.

This role is an individual contributor role and does not include direct people management responsibilities at launch.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the development, documentation, and rollout of the corporate brand expression and identity system

  • Manage brand templates, toolkits, and reusable resources that improve consistency and reduce one-off work.

  • Build and run brand governance workflows, including intake, triage, approvals, routing, escalation, and exception handling.

  • Own and manage the corporate Brand Center as the source of truth for brand guidance, templates, assets, and enablement resources.

  • Lead brand training and onboarding for employees and agencies to improve brand fluency, self-service use, and adoption.

REQUIREMENTS

  • BA/BS with 10+ years’ relevant experience in brand management, brand operations, communications, marketing operations, digital enablement, governance, or related fields.

  • MA/MS/MBA with 8+ years’ relevant experience in brand management, brand operations, communications, marketing operations, digital enablement, governance, or related fields.

  • Experience supporting brand strategy and the implementation of brand expression or identity systems, with the ability to translate strategy into execution guidance.

  • Strong operational experience across governance, workflows, tools, training, adoption support, and continuous improvement.

  • Experience managing or contributing to centralized platforms such as brand centers, asset hubs, template systems, or related enablement resources.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply brand standards with sound judgment, diplomacy, and a service-oriented mindset.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong leadership presence with demonstrated ability to lead without authority and influence programs, projects, and initiatives.

  • When needed, ability to travel.

PREFERRED

  • Advanced degree (MA/MS)

  • Experience working with creative teams and agencies, including developing creative briefs and providing clear, actionable feedback. Design experience is a plus.

  • Regulated industry experience in biotech, pharma, healthcare, or another compliance-sensitive environment is preferred.

  • Experience designing and delivering onboarding, training, and communication materials for internal users and agency partners is preferred.

The salary range for this position is: $182,070.00 - $235,620.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
