Flex is a growth-stage, NYC headquartered FinTech company that is creating the best rent payment experience. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2026 and paying rent on time is expensive, inflexible, and difficult. We’re here to change that! Flex enables our users to pay rent throughout the month on a schedule that better fits their finances and budget. Our mission is to empower as many renters as possible with flexibility over their most significant recurring expense. After deliberately keeping a stealth profile as we built up unprecedented investor support and an enthusiastic user base, we are looking for motivated individuals to help us keep our mission growing. Will you be a part of the team?

About the Role

Flex is seeking an accomplished compliance leader to join our team as Associate Director, CMS. In this role, you will serve as a principal-level owner of one or more core pillars of Flex’s Compliance Management System (CMS). You’ll define strategy, build scalable programs, partner with our bank and regulatory stakeholders, and drive systems that allow Flex to grow responsibly and confidently.

This is a highly visible role with enterprise-level autonomy. You’ll pair deep regulatory expertise with operational and technical savvy to ensure our compliance framework not only meets expectations but sets a new bar for quality, clarity, and rigor.

This is a hybrid position with on-site expectations of 3 days per week in our New York, San Francisco or Salt Lake City Headquarters. For candidates outside of the NY/NJ/SF/SLC area, you may be eligible for our relocation assistance program.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead at least one major CMS domain such as Vendor Governance, Audit & Partner Bank Management, CMS Automation, or Regulatory Reporting.
  • Establish standards, controls, and governance frameworks that keep Flex audit-ready at all times.
  • Provide authoritative guidance on consumer compliance regulations (e.g., Reg E, Reg Z, UDAAP, FCRA), translating them into actionable business processes.
  • Serve as a credible, confident partner to auditors, bank partners, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Manage end-to-end audit and exam cycles, including planning, evidence gathering, and responses.
  • Drive remediation initiatives and champion continuous improvement, leveraging data to identify systemic issues, root causes, and emerging risk trends.
  • Design and oversee dashboards, metrics, and analytics that inform compliance strategy and governance.
  • Partner with Data and Risk teams to embed analytics into CMS operations to create predictability, reliability, and scale.
  • Architect improvements to CMS tools and workflows and identify opportunities to automate, streamline, and future-proof compliance operations.
  • Drive cross-functional initiatives supporting Compliance, Legal, Product, Engineering, Risk, and Operations.
  • Act as a thought partner to senior leaders on compliance strategy and operational design.
Who You Are
  • 8+ years in financial services or fintech Compliance, with progressively expanding responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience owning or architecting large-scale compliance programs.
  • Deep understanding of consumer protection regulations and third-party risk management.
  • A strong communicator who can influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical, structured, and comfortable using data to drive decisions.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and highly reliable.
  • Curious, mission-driven, and energized by building in a fast-moving environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD or advanced degree a plus.
Bonus
  • Experience working directly with bank partners or regulators.
  • Background in CMS tooling, automation, or compliance technology.
  • Experience scaling compliance frameworks in a growth-stage or regulated fintech environment.

The compensation range for this role will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and Flex's internal leveling guidelines and benchmarks. For working locations in NY/NJ/CA, the base salary pay range will be $181,000 - $221,000. For all other states, the base salary pay range will be $163,000 - $199,000.
