The Associate Director, Learning & Development is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of Agency-wide (staff, agencies, partners) and team-specific training, development and learning initiatives. 

This role is responsible for building and operationalizing a comprehensive learning & development strategy anchored in the organization’s accountability framework, competencies, and performance standards. 

Who We Are: 

The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin counties. We envision a community free of the root causes of hunger, where everyone has access to nutritious food of their choosing and is uplifted by a network of support.   

Together with more than 250+ community partners, we work to address hunger head-on through a coordinated network of neighborhood food pantries, CalFresh enrollment, home-delivered groceries, and policy and advocacy efforts. We work with our community to provide food for people facing hunger today while working to end the hunger of tomorrow. What You Would Be Accountable for: 

The Associate Director of Learning & Development is accountable for the following key pieces of work:  

  • Leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of  team-specific training, development and learning initiatives. 

  • Assessing company-wide developmental and support needs to drive learning initiatives and identifies and arranges suitable solutions for teams and the Agency. 

  • Design and implement learning pathways tailored to distinct employee groups (e.g., all staff, people managers, senior leaders, and individual contributors), ensuring development is role-specific . 

  • Actively searches, creatively designs, and implements effective methods to educate, enhance performance, and advance wellness and development strategies and plans of key importance to advance the Agency’s plans to advance Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion goals and strategies through learning and development. 

  • Establish a blended learning approach that incorporates on-the-job learning, social learning (e.g., coaching, mentoring), and formal training to ensure learning is practical, applied, and sustained. 

  • Works cross-functionally and with teams and their leaders to successfully enhance culture, support the success of our people and mission, and ensure an exceptional employee experience. 

What You Would Be Doing Right Now: 

Training 

  • Develop and implement training and learning opportunities, and facilitated dialogue that supports that moves forward Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) goals and initiatives. 

  • Collaborate with teams and leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to organizational training, staff engagement, and creating an inclusive culture. 

  • Work with leadership and departments to create and lead the execution of professional development and training roadmap. 

  • Partner with teams and leadership on strategic initiatives as it relates to creating training plans for staff, resources and opportunities for learning and development, and other HR-related processes. 

  • Support teams and leadership with your thought partnership and innovative ideas on training and development. 

  • Cultivate relationships with outside facilitators as needed to provide training for staff (skill based, JEDI-focused, or program specific). 

  • Ensure learning is embedded into day-to-day operations by partnering with leaders to reinforce learning through coaching, performance management practices, and leadership modeling. 

Human Resources 

  • Support and grow team member development by maintaining an environment focused on values, collaboration, and feedback. 

  • Manage, lead, and link initiatives across team collaboration, HR organizational processes, and internal workflows to advance our culture and learning initiatives. 

  • Other projects and duties as assigned. 

Annual Planning 

  • Coordinate leaders across the organization to establish, share, and measure success relative to the annual learning and development needs/opportunities. 

  • Work closely with leaders across the organization to develop and deliver on the strategic learning objectives of the organization. 

  • Define and track key metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of learning initiatives, including behavioral change, capability development, leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, performance outcomes, and retention. 

What Else You Should Know: 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5+ years relevant  leadership experience. 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Familiarity with food banks/anti-hunger issues is a plus. 

KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

  • Demonstrated facilitation and meeting design experience. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of and experiencing leading learning initiatives. 

  • Experience designing structured learning frameworks tied to competencies, performance standards, and organizational strategy, including measurement of learning impact. 

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and/or initiatives at organizations or companies with more than 150 employees. 

  • Commitment to gender/racial/social justice values.

This position is set in a hybrid work environment. SALARY The position is exempt full-time. The starting salary for this position ranges from $121,263 - $125,013.77, with exact salary depending on experience.
