Position Summary

Illumina’s Multiomics software portfolio helps customers connect multiomic assays, analysis, and interpretation into usable products and workflows — including Illumina Connected Multiomics (ICM) and related software applications across spatial, single-cell, methylation, proteomics, and adjacent multiomics surfaces. As Associate Director, Software Technical Product Management — Multiomics, you lead the Multiomics software product management group: you set the bar for product excellence, coach a team of STPMs, and own the coherent product narrative across the Multiomics portfolio.

You are a people leader first and a senior product leader second. You partner with the Data Platforms & Multiomics engineering organization, BioInsight platform peers, Marketing, design, commercial, and field teams to turn multiomics strategy into shipped software outcomes customers can feel.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Lead the Multiomics STPM team (people leadership, hiring bar, coaching, performance)
  • Own group-level product outcomes for the Multiomics / ICM portfolio and related multiomics enablement
  • Create clarity under ambiguity; establish prioritization frameworks and a recognition culture for incremental usability and integration wins
  • Represent Multiomics software product management in leadership forums; escalate tradeoffs with clear recommendations
  • Partner with peer STPM leaders (Platform, DRAGEN, Orchestration, Oncology, Genetic Disease) so Multiomics investments unlock portfolio-level outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Hire, coach, and develop a team of software technical product managers across Multiomics product areas (e.g., ICM, spatial, single-cell, methylation/proteomics, multiomics enablement)
  • Set group goals, operating cadence, and quality bar for PRDs, discovery, and cross-functional working agreements
  • Own or sponsor the multi-release roadmap narrative for Multiomics software with clear problem statements and success metrics
  • Ensure strong partnership with Multiomics engineering leadership on priorities, customer outcomes, and portfolio sequencing
  • Drive customer and field discovery on multiomics software friction; synthesize into prioritized bets the team can execute
  • Align with BioInsight Platform product leaders so Multiomics applications run on a coherent platform foundation
  • Build a team culture that celebrates base-hit usability and integration progress, not only large aspirational feature swings
  • Manage span and load deliberately; sequence scope expansion so the group stays effective
  • Support strategic customer and executive engagements where Multiomics software is decisive

Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs.

Experience / Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (life sciences, bioinformatics, computer science, engineering, or related) or equivalent experience; advanced degree a plus
  • Typically 12–15+ years of progressive experience in product management for scientific or analysis software, with meaningful people-leadership experience (managing PMs or senior ICs)
  • Track record shipping multiomics, genomics, spatial/single-cell, or related life-sciences software products preferred
  • Experience leading through influence across engineering, design, commercial, and scientific stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to create clarity for executives and ICs alike
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern data analysis workflows is a plus

Requirements
  • Proven ability to lead and develop product managers, not only to be a strong IC
  • Experience crafting portfolio strategy, translating it into team roadmaps, and shipping iteratively
  • Experience collaborating with engineering, design/UX, quality, and commercial / field partners
  • Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle
  • Ability to unify related product threads (applications + data) without becoming a pure coordination layer
  • Analytical rigor: adoption, usability, integration completeness, support burden, prioritization frameworks

All listed requirements are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional task and responsibilities.
