The Associate Director, Supply Chain is a strategic yet hands-on leader capable of implementing the organization, systems, and processes for supply chain management, material control, and logistics functions. Reporting into the Senior Vice President of Operations & Corporate Development, this is an onsite role will be based out of either of our California offices (Foster City and San Diego), with a preference for the Bay Area. If San Diego based, expect frequent travel to the Foster City offices.

Essential Duties include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Own the sourcing, purchasing, planning, inventory management and logistics strategy and relationships, building successful internal and external partnerships. 
  • Build out and manage the supply chain and logistics teams in support of the company’s commercial ramp schedules. 
  • Oversee direct and indirect spend, partnering with Finance team to provide current and projected inventory levels, costed finished product information, and annual cost savings. 
  • Partner with Development team and other Operations colleagues to identify, select, and manage strategic partners involved in the company’s ongoing &planned development projects.
  • Manage partnerships with key suppliers and CMOs through onboarding, contract negotiation, supply planning, and performance monitoring. 
  • Manage domestic and international shipping operations, including relationships with 3PLs, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
  • Manage the team responsible for the S&OP process, overseeing supply risks, inventory levels, and safety stock policy. 
  • Manage compliance with customs, import/export, and global trade documentation for international logistics including HTS classification, COO determination, tariff management, DG shipping compliance, and customs documentation.
  • Accountable for supply chain & logistics performance through appropriate reports and metrics (KPI’s).
  • Own and drive execution of supply chain roadmap: identify gaps in process, systems, and controls as the company scales, developing dual sourcing and business continuity strategies.
  • Support global product launches by ensuring logistics readiness, import approvals, and regional distribution capabilities.
  • Collaborate with company leadership on strategic planning. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of working time away from work location, including overnight/weekend travel at time.  

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business administration, operations, or a related field. 
  • Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in supply chain management and logistics, with 7+ years of management experience.
  • 5 years of experience with complex electromechanical equipment and related consumables in a manufacturing and service environment. 
  • Deep knowledge of all materials- related processes for supply chain management, materials management, and logistics. 
  • Solid working knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements (ISO, FDA, QMS, Customs, etc.). 
  • Expert at implementing and utilizing ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite) and MRP processes & tools. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers, shippers, and customers. 
  • Experience in both domestic and international transportation and logistics required.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, collaborative, high-growth environment with a can-do attitude and attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Extensive experience in an ISO/GMP environment within biotechnology, life sciences, medical devices, or other regulated manufacturing settings.
  • ASCM/APICS CPIM and/or CSCP certifications.
  • DOT HAZMAT and forklift certifications.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $180,000 - $210,000/year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
