The Associate General Counsel, Contracting supports agilon's payor value-based care contracting function across the full contract lifecycle — from initial negotiation through post-execution management — with a focus on Medicare Advantage risk arrangements. Position Duties

Payor Contracting & Strategy

  • Support negotiation of Medicare Advantage risk agreements, including provisions addressing financial terms, risk-bearing entity structures, DOFR allocations, performance guarantees, with senior legal and Payor Contracting leadership.
  • Draft, review, and maintain payor contract templates; support escalations, disputes, and resolutions, and prepare for Joint Operating Committee (JOC) meetings and other payor-facing communications.
  • Monitor CMS regulatory developments and advise business partners on contract language implications.
  • Coordinate with Finance and Contract Analytics to align negotiated financial terms with approved financial models, and support the contractual aspects of post-execution management, amendments, renewals, and reconciliations.

Vendor Contracting

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial vendor/third-party agreements: technology, SaaS, professional services, consulting, data/analytics, licensing, and supply agreements, coordinating with privacy counsel and other subject-matter counsel as appropriate.
  • Partner with IT, InfoSec, Privacy, Finance, Compliance, and business owners to ensure agreements address legal, regulatory, and operational requirements.
  • Support standard templates, playbooks, and negotiation guidelines.

Additional & Cross-Functional Support

  • Opportunities to contribute to physician/partner agreements, ACO program contracting (MSSP, LEAD), and clinical/co-management agreements, depending on interest and in coordination with relevant subject-matter counsel.
  • Research federal and state legal developments affecting agilon's markets; translate legal, regulatory, financial, and operational risk into practical business guidance.
  • Partner across Legal, Compliance, Finance, Operations, and Market teams in a highly matrixed environment; support additional projects as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years of transactional legal experience (law firm, in-house, or both).
  • Value-based care contracting experience; Medicare Advantage experience; and prior experience at a payor/health plan.
  • Ability to draft and negotiate agreements, exercise sound judgment, identify and articulate legal/business risk, and work effectively in a highly matrixed organization.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Vendor/commercial contracting experience.
  • Familiarity with CLM systems or contracting process improvement.
