Key responsibilities:
  • Structure, draft and negotiate commercial agreements associated with Google DeepMind’s research, product and operational activities, primarily focusing on licence agreements, services agreements, and collaboration agreements.

  • Support strategic research efforts by spotting and advising on legal issues and risks.
  • Advise on internal contracting processes and policies, including deal review and approval processes.
  • Support the Legal team’s initiatives to manage and track OKRs, coordinate legal processes, and report on key legal metrics in support of high-level team strategies.
  • Support other key strategic initiatives across the company, such as generative media partnerships.
About You
  • Qualified to practise law in a U.S. state.
  • You have experience advising globally on a range of commercial matters with a good understanding of intellectual property, data and privacy issues.
  • You are comfortable making judgement calls on a regular basis, and thoughtful about the real world consequences of those decisions.
  • You have excellent communication skills.
  • You are adept at balancing legal, cultural and business demands and produce practical, solution-focused advice.
  • You are organized, accustomed to working at a fast pace, and juggling many different business initiatives; and you can quickly pivot with changing business priorities.

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

  • You have prior experience negotiating AI agreements.
  • You have a track record of contributions to AI products or systems, and have a balanced view of the opportunities and risks of those AI products or systems.
  • You’re a team player who can operate independently but enjoys being part of a highly supportive and collaborative team.
  • You’re excited about Google DeepMind’s mission and want to help achieve it.
