About this role

Securities lending generates alpha for clients across scientific, fundamental and index products. We partner with portfolio managers to optimize returns through a variety of trade types. BlackRock is a pioneer in using quantitative techniques and sophisticated models to improve performance of its Securities Lending business.

Why is your role important?

We are seeking a quantitative researcher to join the Securities Lending electronic trading team in the New York office. Our team is responsible for the design and development of electronic trading workflows, spanning data and analytics, quantitative research, trading algorithms, automation and platform capabilities.

Success in this role will require strong analytical and quantitative skills and the ability to translate research into scalable trading solutions. The candidate will work across research, algorithm development and production implementation, while collaborating with a global team of traders, researchers and technologists within the Lending team and across the wider BlackRock community.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative research and analytics, including data analysis and post-trade evaluation, to generate insights and improve trading performance.

  • Develop and enhance trading signals, models and algorithms supporting Securities Lending electronic trading and automation.

  • Own production models and algorithms, including ongoing monitoring, review, evaluation and governance.

  • Contribute to electronic trading platform and workflow design, including automated order raising and trading capabilities.

  • Apply AI and machine learning techniques to enhance quantitative research, trading analytics and automation.

  • Contribute to the design of AI-enabled research and trading workflows, integrating quantitative capabilities with evolving AI technologies.

  • Work closely with traders, technologists and other stakeholders to translate research and trading needs into scalable production solutions.

  • Build close ties with investors, risk managers and quantitative research teams across BlackRock.

Skills / Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or higher in a quantitative discipline preferred.

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including statistical, machine learning and optimization techniques.

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in quantitative research, algorithm development, data science or a related quantitative field; financial markets experience is preferred but not required.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate quantitative research into models, algorithms and production solutions.

  • Strong programming and data skills; Python and SQL required.

  • Experience working with large and complex datasets and developing robust analytical solutions.

  • Understanding of software development practices and the production model lifecycle.

  • Experience applying AI technologies to quantitative research, analytics, software development or workflow automation is preferred.

  • Ability to independently solve complex problems while working effectively with researchers, traders and technologists.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • High motivation to learn financial markets, securities lending and emerging technologies.

  • Strong sense of teamwork, knowledge sharing and professional work ethic.

For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$132,500.00 - USD$162,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

Our hybrid work model
