The Opportunity

At Root, we’re on a mission to improve the lives of our customers by offering better insurance solutions. We challenge ourselves to think differently in order to reimagine insurance to make it smarter, more equitable, and a better experience for all.

We strive to “unbreak” the archaic insurance industry by using data and technology in innovative new ways. We believe we must be steadfast in our commitment to research, experimentation, and disciplined data-driven decision making in order to build products our customers love.

Consumer auto insurance is a competitive industry, so offering an industry leading insurance product specifically tailored to each state is essential to differentiate ourselves from the competition. This team lives at the heart of our promise to “unbreak” auto insurance and deliver that world-class product. Our State Product Management team works alongside the actuarial and regulatory groups, with significant interactions with data scientists, product managers and engineers to decide how to set and implement state-based strategy at Root.

As an Insurance Associate State Product Manager, you’ll be responsible for monitoring and optimizing business operations in several of Root’s existing markets. You’ll be expected to challenge Root’s current and developing product offerings, customizing them as appropriate to meet the regulatory and business needs of your markets.

Root is a “work where it works best” company. This means we will support you working in whatever location that works best for you across the US.

Salary Range: $120,560 - $150,700 (LTI Eligible)

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Drive results- develop, enhance and maintain the auto product in assigned states; methodically set rate levels, customize franchise products, inform underwriting decisions, manage state idiosyncrasy, and pursue project timelines to achieve profitable growth

  • Analyze performance- develop reporting and maintain awareness of key performance indicators as they develop in assigned states, escalating concerns and recommending adjustments as required; provide and socialize analytical expertise across the broader state management team

  • Navigate the competitive landscape- understand emerging market trends, competitor products, customer needs, and regulatory requirements

  • Manage external relationships- manage relationships with Departments of Insurance and other stakeholders during filings, market conduct exams, and as we refine and advance our insurance products

  • Collaborate across organization- establish relationships with marketing, claims, underwriting, and distribution teams to ensure productive outcomes for those functions within assigned markets; keep key stakeholders informed regarding status of notable initiatives

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field; professional designations related to insurance are a plus

  • Hands-on experience with analytical techniques to assess data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights; familiarity with SQL-based data analysis preferred

  • 3+ years of experience in the insurance industry, preferably in product management, underwriting, analytics or a related role within personal lines insurance

  • Relentless focus on business outcomes

  • Mental flexibility to understand and leverage Root’s data-science-driven and technology-forward culture

  • Ability to communicate effectively across functions, concisely summarizing conclusions from technical analysis

  • Thrives in a fast-paced work environment, prioritizing and executing on the most critical projects
