The Associate Vice President of Finance and Business Operations leads finance and operational functions, overseeing budgeting, compliance, and financial strategy for a nonprofit, while developing systems and processes across the organization.
Peregrine Team is seeking a strategic and hands-on Associate Vice President of Finance and Business Operations to lead finance, accounting, and operational functions for a non-profit organization. This role partners closely with the CFO and executive leadership to drive financial strategy, operational efficiency, compliance, and long-term planning.
The ideal candidate is both a strong financial leader and an operator who can oversee accounting, reporting, budgeting, and compliance while also improving systems, processes, and cross-functional alignment across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a member of the CFO’s leadership team and contribute to organizational strategy and financial planning
- Oversee accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, audits, tax, and compliance functions
- Lead annual operating plan and budgeting process aligned with strategic priorities
- Monitor financial performance, KPIs, and variance analysis to support executive decision-making
- Ensure GAAP compliance, internal controls, and regulatory reporting requirements are met
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial consultants
- Develop financial reporting tools, dashboards, and scorecards to support leadership and board reporting
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
- Partner with operational and program teams to align financial systems and business processes
- Drive process improvement, automation, and efficiency across finance and business operations
- Support board reporting and presentations in partnership with the CFO
- Participate in retirement plan governance and other organizational committees as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
- Prior senior leadership experience in a complex organization, nonprofit experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Experience working with executive leadership and/or boards of directors
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing teams
- Strong communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Nonprofit or mission-driven organization experience
- Experience with financial transformation, process improvement, or system implementation
- Experience working with external auditors, investment advisors, or governance committees
