Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Automation Developer to support quality assurance and software testing initiatives through the design, development, and execution of automated testing solutions. The successful candidate will help improve testing processes, implement automation frameworks, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality software delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for automation within software testing processes.
  • Design and execute QA tests using scripts that automatically validate functionality.
  • Design and develop test automation scripts.
  • Utilize and maintain test automation frameworks.
  • Collaborate with QA analysts and software developers to resolve testing challenges.
  • Review and improve test automation approaches and methodologies.
  • Analyze testing and DevOps processes, standards, and best practices, and drive continuous improvements.
  • Provide technical support for test automation tools.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including Sprint Retrospectives, to identify quality improvement opportunities.
  • Evaluate test automation tools and provide recommendations that promote best practices.
  • Transform functional, business, and system requirements into effective test plans and execution strategies.
  • Create and manage test data according to test plans.
  • Analyze testing results, perform re-testing activities, and validate expected outcomes.
  • Participate in reviews and walkthroughs to ensure testing objectives are met.
  • Recommend changes to improve testing effectiveness and quality outcomes.
  • Validate implementation readiness and support user sign-off activities.
  • Work closely with developers, architects, product owners, and stakeholders to establish effective testing strategies.
  • Track and resolve testing, quality, and production issues.
  • Ensure automation assets are documented, maintained under source control, and supported by disaster recovery processes.

Required Qualifications

Public Sector Experience

  • 5+ years of experience working with federal, provincial, or broader public sector healthcare organizations.
  • Knowledge of public sector enterprise architecture artifacts, methodologies, processes, and documentation standards.
  • Understanding of public sector project management methodologies and best practices.
  • Experience supporting healthcare-related public sector initiatives.
  • Knowledge of government policy frameworks, approval processes, and systems development methodologies.
  • Experience working on large and complex healthcare technology projects.

QA Automation & Testing Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in automated testing and quality assurance.
  • Experience identifying automation opportunities within software development and testing processes.
  • Design, development, and execution of automated QA testing solutions.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automation frameworks such as Selenium.
  • Experience identifying, documenting, and managing defects and quality issues.
  • Experience installing and configuring applications and databases relevant to automation testing.
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies in object-oriented environments.
  • Experience working within Agile, traditional, and DevOps delivery teams.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language.
  • Experience using enterprise performance testing tools such as LoadRunner.
  • Experience testing:
    • Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) solutions
    • Web applications
    • APIs
    • Integration components
    • Reporting solutions
    • HL7-FHIR web services
  • Experience with security testing involving SAML and JWT.
  • Ability to create comprehensive testing documentation including:
    • Test Strategies
    • Test Plans
    • Test Cases
    • Test Scripts
  • Experience using API testing tools such as Postman and SoapUI.
  • Strong SQL and data validation experience.
  • Experience with accessibility testing and WCAG compliance validation.
  • Experience producing test result reports, including security and performance test outcomes.
  • Experience testing Business Intelligence (BI) solutions and validating data integrity.
  • Experience validating successful production deployments and release implementations.

Logging, Tracking & Defect Reporting

  • 7+ years of experience:
    • Identifying and documenting issues and risks.
    • Managing defect logs and reporting.
    • Working with Jira, Confluence, TestRail, or similar tools.
    • Updating project status and task tracking.
    • Participating in QA and cross-functional team meetings.
    • Prioritizing testing activities based on business priorities and risk.
    • Managing testing environments and test data challenges.
    • Participating in walkthroughs and defect triage sessions.
