About Revel
Revel is building the software infrastructure that controls the world's most critical hardware systems — across aerospace, energy, robotics, defense, and advanced manufacturing. Our platform replaces outdated tooling with a modern, high-performance stack for commanding, monitoring, and deploying real-world systems. Engineers rely on Revel to operate hardware where safety, speed, reliability, and clarity matter. As we scale, we are tackling complex data challenges around ingesting and analyzing large volumes of high-frequency, high-cardinality telemetry.

Role Overview
We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to help build the systems that power our data platform. This role focuses on designing and implementing backend services and data pipelines that handle large-scale industrial telemetry. The nature of this data — high volume, high frequency, and high cardinality — requires thoughtful system design beyond typical off-the-shelf solutions.

You will work on high-performance services in Rust, help shape our data architecture, and contribute to the evolution of our infrastructure as we expand toward more cloud-based systems. Your work will directly support core product capabilities, including reporting, analytics, and real-time system visibility.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build scalable backend services in Rust.

  • Develop telemetry ingestion pipelines for high-frequency sensor data.

  • Build storage systems optimized for efficient querying and long-term data retention.

  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define system architecture and requirements.

  • Contribute to the transition of systems from on-premise to cloud-based infrastructure.

  • Help shape the long-term direction of our data platform.

  • Build reliable, production-grade systems with a focus on performance and maintainability.

Must-Have Experience

  • 7+ years of backend or systems engineering experience.

  • Experience building data pipelines, distributed systems, or backend infrastructure.

  • Experience working with high-throughput, time-series, and high-cardinality data.

  • Proficiency in Rust, or strong experience in C++/systems programming with genuine interest in learning Rust.

  • Experience designing data storage and querying systems.

  • Ability to work through ambiguity and contribute to system design decisions.

Plusses

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, etc.).

  • Experience with streaming/data processing systems (Kafka, Spark, Flink).

  • Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, HBase, etc.).

  • Experience working with hardware, IoT, or industrial data systems.

Team & Exposure
You will work closely with a small, highly technical team building core infrastructure for the platform. This role is cross-functional and closely tied to product initiatives around telemetry and reporting. You will have meaningful ownership over system design and contribute directly to how our data platform evolves.

Why Revel

  • Work on systems that support real-world hardware operations.

  • Tackle challenging problems in large-scale data infrastructure.

  • High ownership and impact within a fast-moving engineering team.

  • Opportunity to help shape the future of our platform.

Benefits

  • Health insurance — We offer comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage to support you and your family.

  • 401(k) — Save for your future with our 401(k) plan.

  • Equity — All full-time employees receive equity, ensuring that you share in Revel's success and growth.

  • Life insurance — Company-paid life insurance gives you and your family peace of mind.

  • Parental leave — We offer paid maternity and paternity leave to support new parents.

  • Catered lunch — We provide catered lunch five days a week, so you can stay fueled and focused.

  • Unlimited PTO — We trust you to take the time you need. Unlimited PTO for all full-time employees.

ITAR Requirements
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
