Why Standard Fleet?

Standard Fleet is building the next generation of fleet management software. We treat vehicles as first-class citizens—so operators can connect to, track, and manage their fleets without installing cumbersome aftermarket “dongles.” We started with EVs, and now we’re building the platform for every drivetrain: electric, hybrid, and ICE. Our mission is to modernize commercial transportation by setting a new standard for how fleets are connected, operated, and scaled.
Every member of the Standard Fleet team is fueled by a deep passion for transportation and is committed to making our products meaningfully better each week. We come from companies like Apple, Uber, Tesla, Stripe, Yelp, and Embark. We’re growing quickly, having raised $20m in total funding.
Standard Fleet is well-funded and backed by some of Silicon Valley's top investors. Some of our founding team members, including our CEO David Hodge, previously founded Embark, a popular mobility software company that was acquired by Apple. We’ve succeeded before and we’re now back at it and swinging for the fences.

Responsibilities
  • Ship backend features and fixes that directly impact how real fleets operate their vehicles day to day.

  • Learn and contribute across our backend services and infrastructure, developing a broad understanding of our platform.

  • Collaborate with senior engineers on system design, gaining hands-on experience with scalability, reliability, and performance challenges.

  • Participate in code reviews, giving and receiving feedback to sharpen your engineering skills.

  • Work cross-functionally with design, customer experience, and sales teams to understand what customers need and translate that into backend solutions.

  • Own the deployment and monitoring of features you build, developing a strong sense of operational responsibility.

  • Progressively take on more complex projects as you grow, with a path toward owning significant parts of our backend architecture.

Qualifications

We don’t believe in qualification checkboxes for candidates. These often cause great candidates to think they’re not qualified. If you think you can help us scale our business, let’s talk and see if we’re a fit.

You might be a good fit if…
  • You're curious and love to learn. You pick up new languages, tools, and concepts quickly and enjoy the process.

  • You have foundational backend experience — personal projects, internships, bootcamps, open source contributions, or 0–2 years of professional work all count.

  • You have some exposure to Go, Python, or similar languages and are excited to go deeper.

  • You write clean, thoughtful code and care about doing things well, not just getting things done.

  • You're comfortable asking questions, admitting what you don't know, and figuring things out from there.

  • You have a bias toward action — you'd rather try something and iterate than wait for perfect requirements.

  • You're genuinely excited about electric vehicles, transportation, or sustainability.

  • You thrive in environments where the pace is fast and the problems aren't pre-defined.
