Science is a clinical stage, vertically integrated technology company focused on solving some of neuroscience’s hardest questions and most serious unmet medical needs. We work to restore quality of life to those with debilitating conditions for which there are no treatment options, creating devices aimed at restoring vision, cognition, and mobility to patients who have lost it. To support progress across our industry, we provide state-of-the-art components and vertically integrated infrastructure for others to build on via Science Foundry.

As part of the BCI team at Science, you will work with a world-class team of scientists and engineers to develop closed-loop brain computer interfaces that push the frontier of neurotechnology. Your technical background may be any combination of neuroscience, mathematics, ML, software, and electrical engineering, but you are exceptionally resourceful, adaptable, and creative. In this line of work, we seek to answer fundamental questions around neural coding, representation, learning, and memory. We will follow the science where it takes us.

Role responsibilities:

  • Design novel behavioral tasks that leverage high-dimensional, bidirectional neural interfaces
  • Write application software that handles high-throughput data under strict latency requirements
  • Build out infrastructure for storing, analyzing, and visualizing large amounts of multi-modal neural and behavioral data
  • Stay current with research at the intersection of deep learning and neuroscience, prototyping emerging techniques for neural signal processing
  • Inform our device and hardware roadmap by identifying useful features to unlock new science

Key qualifications:

  • Strong evidence of technical excellence, such as a track record of high impact (broadly defined) results, widely used open-source contributions, or competitive fellowships
  • Demonstrated history of rapidly shipping solutions when confronted with complex, ill-defined technical problems
  • Experience with modern machine learning methods, including transformers
  • Strong Python language skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with C++, particularly in high performance, critical real time applications
  • Experience extracting information from biological signals, market feeds, audio recordings, video streams, or other real-world noisy data
