About the Role:

At Gusto, we believe that providing comprehensive benefits and leave programs is key to supporting our employees’ well-being. The Benefits Generalist will be crucial in managing and administering our employee benefits and leave programs, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, and acting as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries. This role requires strong project management skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering an excellent employee experience.

About the Team:

The Benefits team at Gusto brings our mission to life by creating programs that support employees in leading better lives through work. Whether it’s health and wellness, financial planning, family support, or time away, the Benefits team ensures that every program aligns with our values and empowers employees to thrive personally and professionally.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Administer employee benefits including processing enrollments, managing file feeds, and supporting open enrollment events and education.
  • Review and process leave requests according to company policies and legal requirements, maintaining clear communication with employees throughout their leave.
  • Manage ADA accommodation requests from initial review through implementation, collaborating with employees, managers, and medical professionals to ensure appropriate solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Payroll, Employee Relations, and People Partners on employee cases and compliance matters.
  • Maintain accurate records in Workday and third-party systems while supporting compliance and data reporting initiatives.
  • Serve as primary contact for benefit and leave inquiries, providing clear guidance to employees on all benefits-related matters.
  • Create and maintain employee education materials and internal resources, partnering with Program Managers on continuous improvements.
  • Stay updated on relevant federal, state, and local regulations affecting benefits, leaves, and accommodations.
  • Support Gustie programming to increase employee awareness and understanding of benefits, leaves, and well-being programs.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 3+ years of experience in benefits administration, accommodations & leave management, or a related HR function.
  • Understanding of self-funded employee benefits programs, including 401k, and leave laws (FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ACA, ERISA, state-specific policies, etc).
  • Experience managing benefits enrollment, ADA accommodations, leave tracking, and compliance reporting.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems (e.g. Workday, ADP, Rippling, Gusto, etc), benefits management platforms, and/or leaves platforms.
  • Effective communication skills with ability to convey information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Time management capabilities to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Problem solving abilities to explain complex issues and follow through to solutions.
  • Discretion to maintain confidentiality and handle issues ethically and with integrity.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity with agility to thrive and excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
