We are seeking an experienced Manager of Benefits & Total Rewards to lead the strategy, administration, and continuous improvement of our employee benefits and compensation programs. This highly visible role partners closely with Executive Leadership, Finance, and Human Resources to ensure our Total Rewards programs remain competitive, financially responsible, and aligned with our organizational goals.

The ideal candidate has significant experience administering self-funded employer-sponsored health plans, managing complex vendor relationships, analyzing healthcare claims, and developing compensation strategies that attract and retain top talent.

Position Summary

The Manager of Benefits & Total Rewards serves as the organization's subject matter expert for employee benefits, compensation, and Total Rewards programs.

This position provides strategic and operational oversight of our self-funded medical plan, compensation programs, HRIS benefits administration, regulatory compliance, and vendor partnerships. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, financial acumen, and the ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership to improve employee programs while responsibly managing healthcare costs.

Candidates should have direct experience managing self-funded employer-sponsored health plans. 

Essential ResponsibilitiesBenefits Strategy & Administration
  • Lead the administration of the organization's self-funded medical, dental, vision, wellness, and voluntary benefit programs.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for Third-Party Administrators (TPAs), Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), stop-loss carriers, brokers, consultants, and other benefits vendors.
  • Monitor healthcare claims utilization, identify trends, evaluate high-cost claims, and recommend cost-containment strategies.
  • Oversee stop-loss renewals, reimbursements, contracts, and vendor performance.
  • Evaluate benefit plan performance and recommend enhancements that balance employee value with long-term financial sustainability.
  • Develop and implement wellness and population health initiatives that improve employee engagement while managing healthcare costs.
Compensation & Total Rewards
  • Administer the organization's compensation philosophy, salary structures, market pricing, and pay practices.
  • Conduct compensation analyses and provide recommendations for salary adjustments, new positions, promotions, retention initiatives, and incentive programs.
  • Partner with department leaders to ensure equitable and competitive compensation decisions.
  • Lead annual market benchmarking and pay equity analyses.
HRIS & Benefits Technology
  • Serve as the organization's subject matter expert for Paycom Benefits Administration and Payroll modules.
  • Configure benefit plans, eligibility rules, payroll deductions, and system workflows.
  • Lead Annual Open Enrollment, including planning, testing, implementation, employee communication, and post-enrollment audits.
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, reporting, and operational efficiency.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, Section 125, FMLA, and all applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Coordinate annual compliance reporting, audits, plan documentation, required filings, and employee communications.
  • Monitor legislative changes affecting benefits and compensation programs and implement required updates.
Financial Analysis & Executive Partnership
  • Partner with Finance to review healthcare claims trends, reserve funding, premium equivalents, and annual benefits budgets.
  • Analyze healthcare utilization, compensation, and workforce data to support executive decision-making.
  • Develop executive dashboards highlighting healthcare trends, vendor performance, compensation metrics, and Total Rewards program effectiveness.
  • Recommend innovative strategies that enhance employee value while responsibly managing organizational costs.
 QualificationsQualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) or more years of progressive experience leading Benefits or Total Rewards programs.
  • Five (5) or more years of direct experience administering self-funded employer-sponsored health plans.
  • Experience working directly with Third-Party Administrators (TPAs), Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), stop-loss carriers, benefits brokers, and consultants.
  • Experience analyzing healthcare claims utilization, cost trends, and cost-containment initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience administering compensation programs, salary structures, market pricing, and pay equity initiatives.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, formulas, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience administering HRIS/payroll systems; Paycom experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, project management, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred
  • Healthcare industry experience.
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation preferred.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Experience leading wellness and population health initiatives.
  • Experience presenting benefits, compensation, and financial analyses to executive leadership.
