Position Description:

The Business Development Director – IPP (Independent Power Producer) & Developers is responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities within the IPP industry, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, and developing and executing strategic plans, as a key leader within FlexGen. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Business Development this individual is expected to work broadly and collaboratively across FlexGen to achieve innovative growth agenda to deliver energy storage solutions to large energy users.

 

This role is ideal for a strategic, technically fluent professional who understands the energy needs of hyperscale and IPP’s and can position FlexGen’s energy storage solutions as a critical enabler of reliability, sustainability, and cost efficiency. You will be responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships with IPP’s, infrastructure developers, while collaborating internally to tailor solutions that meet the unique demands of this high-growth sector.


Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute FlexGen’s go-to-market strategy for the IPP and Developer segment across North America
  • Quota Carrying Position YoY: Candidate will be expected to take customers through a complex sales cycle from beginning to end; This includes prospecting, cold calling establishing credibility, traveling to customers and conferences to value-sell in person weekly, close large-scale contracts, and maintain relationships with customers to secure future projects
  • Identify and qualify opportunities for energy storage deployments that support IPP and Developers financial project returns, resiliency, sustainability, and grid services
  • Collaborate with internal teams—including product, engineering, delivery, and customer success—to design and deliver tailored solutions
  • Lead the preparation of commercial and technical proposals, including pricing, scope, and partnership structures
  • Represent FlexGen at industry events, conferences, and customer meetings (~60% travel expected)
  • Stay informed on market trends, regulatory developments, and customer needs in the IPP and energy storage sectors

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of BS degree in engineering or technical field
  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience; 2+ years of experience in the IPP space
  • Experience with electric power, renewable energy (solar, wind, and battery), industrial communication, or electrical service
  • Executed BESS projects in the IPP & Developer Space; Must send a project list to FlexGen with projects contracted (Please remove names or details for non-public projects as needed)
  • Ability to effectively communicate in formal and informal setting, both internal and customer-related
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Exposure to commercial energy negotiations, electricity market / resource planning analysis, and/or new market entry strategy preferred
  • Customer management experience
  • Exposure to with power industry, battery storage, power converters, power system design and/or battery energy storage controls
  • High proficiency with Office, Excel, Power Point, and customer resource management programs (i.e. salesforce.com)
