A Little About Us

Yahoo Finance is the largest digital destination for people who want to understand their money, the markets, and the forces shaping the global economy. Our mission is to make finance clear and useful so people understand not only what is happening, but what it means for them. As Yahoo Finance evolves, we want our visual identity to carry more energy, personality, and ambition—in motion and everywhere else.

About the Role

As a Motion Designer (IC3) on the Yahoo Finance team, you will lead the creative translation of complex financial narratives into dynamic visual stories across our digital, video, and social channels. Reporting directly to the Creative Director, you will operate as an independent professional, owning the end-to-end design and animation of daily video assets, breaking news graphics, and promotional campaigns.

In this role, you will work with minimal guidance to champion design consistency while collaborating daily with video producers, editors, and editorial staff. You will actively incorporate AI-driven tools and automation methodologies into your production workflows to decrease delivery turnaround time while maintaining an exceptionally high bar for visual craft and composition.

What You'll Do

  • Video & Show Packaging: Plan, design, and animate broadcast-quality graphics for daily and weekly programming, including show opens, segment transitions, lower thirds, and customized breaking news packages.

  • Social Asset Optimization: Translate long-form financial investigations and real-time market moments into highly engaging, scroll-stopping motion content tailored for diverse multi-platform social distributions.

  • Workflow Automation & Toolkits: Architect, deploy, and maintain intelligent motion templates and asset toolkits (e.g., smart MOGRT workflows) that enable video production squads to scale daily content creation without losing visual integrity.

  • AI-Augmented Production: Integrate generative AI design systems into daily asset creation pipelines; utilize automated toolsets to accelerate storyboarding, frame generation, complex rotoscoping, and rapid element cleanup.

  • Algorithmic Asset Versioning: Implement automated scripting and generative tools to handle high-volume asset variations, replacing repetitive manual resizing tasks for multi-platform social aspect ratios with intelligent layout adjustments.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as a core creative resource for the newsroom; sync early with editorial, social, and video teams during concept phases to integrate motion-first thinking directly into story blueprints.

  • Brand Governance: Govern and iterate upon Yahoo Finance’s overarching motion language, ensuring all self-directed and templated outputs remain strictly aligned with modern brand standards and competitor differentiators.

  • Constructive Iteration: Lead collaborative design critiques, translating real-time stakeholder notes and data-driven performance metrics into swift visual iterations.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional motion design experience within a fast-paced digital newsroom, broadcast studio, creative agency, or editorial environment.

  • Verified portfolio or showreel showcasing extensive motion graphics execution, with explicit evidence of design thinking, structural composition, typography, and visual hierarchy.

  • Expert operational command of Adobe Creative Cloud suites, specifically After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing AI-augmented creative tools or generative systems within a production environment to accelerate asset generation or texture rendering.

  • Proven experience building and deploying scalable motion graphic templates (MOGRTs) within premiere workflows or adjacent broadcast playback ecosystems.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision, managing multiple complex visual assets simultaneously against tight, news-driven daily deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally alongside video editors, data journalists, or creative directors.

  • Professional commitment to financial news storytelling, with a strong focus on using movement to make dense mathematical or economic insights instantly clear to a broad consumer audience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience utilizing automated prompt engineering or asset-generation pipelines within specialized visual software to optimize rendering and brainstorming velocity.

  • High-level operational familiarity with live production parameters, newsroom control room systems, or broadcast environments.

  • Practical working proficiency with 3D design and animation tools, specifically Cinema 4D or Blender.

  • Strong focus on emerging trends in digital animation, creative engineering, and AI-driven workflow developments.

The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.
