The Department

CAA Brand Management, the licensing and consumer products division of CAA, is a global leader in brand licensing. With offices in 20 countries, we help brands expand into new consumer product categories, experiences, and territories. We take a client centered and collaborative approach to every partnership, treating our clients’ brands as if they were our own.

Purpose of the Job

CAA’s Brand Management team is seeking a Director/VP of Business Development to join our fast growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong sales executive with expertise in the licensing industry to grow in a strategic, team oriented environment where they can partner with best-in-class brands. The candidate must be a self-starting business developer, committed and highly motivated in delivering relationships as well as implementing licensing strategies for the North America portfolio of Brands.

They will have the ability to lead negotiations with key manufactures and retailers, while working across all business functions with both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Sales Strategy & Lead Generation

  • Be the subject matter expert for CAA client’s licensing strategies and work with client leads to identify and secure client alignment on growth category opportunities.

  • Research the market to identify prospects aligned to the brand strategies across all categories.

  • Identify key contacts and decisions makers within target companies and build relationships via warm/cold calling, emailing outreach and other means as necessary.

Drive Business Development

  • Consistently drive prospects into leads through high-volume outbound sales activity.

  • Conduct detailed research to understand the prospects interests and capabilities.

  • Collaborate with wider business to develop pitch decks as needed which clearly align the brand value proposition with prospect’s interests and capabilities.

  • Take ownership of the deal process. Lead and manage efficient and productive business understanding and planning, negotiations of deal terms, and ultimately execution of long form license agreements.

  • Work with teams to strategize on licensee renewals and extensions, including negotiations and/or potential new partners.

Operations & Process Management

  • Share insights on analysis, trend and trade performance with internal and external constituents.

  • Track activity consistently and accurately within team platforms.

  • Run productive and goal-oriented deal processes.

  • Work well with cross-functional teams including Legal, Finance, and Creative colleagues.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 8+ years sales experience with a proven track record of closing deals and growing partnerships

  • Strong knowledge within the licensing industry, across a variety of product categories

  • Existing network of contacts (including key retailers) across multiple sectors within North America

  • Accomplished communicator; via phone, video-call, email and in-person.

  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills

  • Comfortable warm/cold calling, and prospecting new business

  • A confident and successful negotiator who can creatively develop new business ideas

  • Experience of working with businesses and key decision makers across multiple categories

  • Strong attention to detail, exceptional organization and time-management skills.

  • Goal driven and capacity to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing workload; you’re comfortable with substantial cold-calling and outreach activity.

  • Self-starter with a positive can-do approach and solution orientated style

  • Team player, supportive of colleagues and management to achieve team goals

Location

This role will be based in our New York office.

Compensation

The annual base salary for this position is in the range of $145,000 - $195,000.This position also is eligible for benefits and discretionary bonus. Ultimately, the salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, business sector, and geographic location, among other criteria.
