We are rebuilding biotech for the AI era.

When a breakthrough is delayed, the world waits. Getting a molecule from discovery to patients, or a crop from lab to field, involves thousands of slow, manual, disconnected steps. AI has the potential to change this, compressing decades of R&D work into years. But that only happens when clean, structured scientific data and AI are built into how science gets done.

Benchling is the AI platform for biotech R&D. Scientists use Benchling to design experiments, capture structured data, and run AI agents and models directly in their workflows. Over 200,000 scientists around the world trust Benchling to power their most important work, from academic labs to Sanofi, Moderna, and more than half of the world's top 50 biopharma.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Business Technology team is looking for a Systems Engineer to help enhance and support our IT infrastructure. In this role, you’ll assist in managing and optimizing endpoint environments (macOS, Windows), support identity and access management (IAM) solutions, build integrations and automation, and assist with AWS infrastructure management and new service deployments.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain and improve our endpoint management tools to provide a seamless experience across macOS and Windows devices.

  • Develop automation to streamline workflows and enhance the employee experience.

  • Apply engineering best practices, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform, configuration management, log aggregation, monitoring, telemetry, and alerting to scale and optimize critical IT functions.

  • Implement and maintain automated IAM solutions with Okta to strengthen security and access controls.

  • Manage system upgrades and integrations, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

  • Jira administration of projects, automation, and integrations to support business objectives.

  • Participate in and ensure alignment of IT services with our compliance responsibilities.

  • Build and maintain runbooks, support documentation, and automation scripts. Identify opportunities to streamline IT operations and reduce manual toil.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 6+ years in IT Systems Engineering, corporate infrastructure, or a related technical role.

  • Advanced experience in Identity and Access Management, especially with Okta and SCIM integrations.

  • Familiarity in scripting languages like Bash or Python for automation and configuration.

  • Hands on knowledge of modern Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions such as Jamf, Intune, Fleet.

  • Skilled in implementing, managing, and scaling IAM solutions and automation with a focus on Okta.

  • Proven experience building scalable, self-sufficient automations in Okta Workflows.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Comfortable owning projects end-to-end, from scoping and planning through to implementation and documentation.

  • Deep understanding of IT infrastructure and services, including SaaS app management, endpoint security, and networking fundamentals.
