Harbor invites candidates to define a role focused on building, running, or owning a meaningful function within its AI risk and insurance business. Applicants should understand Harbor’s mission, identify an important gap, propose a concrete first-six-month initiative, and demonstrate they have previously delivered work at that level. Potential backgrounds include actuarial science, security research, law, regulation, design, writing, product, engineering, and research. The role is hybrid in San Francisco at an early-stage company.

About Harbor

Harbor is insurance for the agentic economy. Banks, insurers, hospitals and law firms are handing real decisions to AI agents: approving loans, pricing policies, moving money, advising customers, thousands of times a day. When one gets it wrong, nobody knows who is liable, and insurers are excluding AI from existing policies because there is no claims history to price it.

We fix that. Our platform finds every agent a company runs, measures its operational, security and regulatory risk against a framework mapped to NIST AI RMF, SR 26-2 and the EU AI Act, and blocks the decisions that break the company's rules before they go through. Then we insure the risk that remains, with our own money behind the answer.

We emerged from stealth in October 2026 with $10M in seed funding from Base10 Partners, Abstract and 8VC. Born out of Stanford, Harbor brings together AI researchers, engineers, IMO and IOI medalists, former founders, and insurance leaders, with the shared mission of building the risk infrastructure for AI.

About the role

Don't see your role? Tell us what you would build at Harbor and why it matters.

Harbor is a small team working on a problem that touches engineering, insurance, security, research, regulation and law. We cannot post for everything we need, and some of the best people we will hire do not have a job title yet. If you are exceptional at something and you can see where it fits in a company that insures AI agents, we want to hear from you.

What a strong application looks like
  • You know what Harbor does and you have an opinion about what it is missing.

  • You describe a concrete thing you would build, run or own in your first six months, and what it would change for our customers.

  • You can show you have done something at that level before: a company you started, research you published, a function you built from zero, a record that is hard to argue with.

Who has applied this way at other companies

Actuaries who became product leads. Security researchers who became the first hire of a red team. Lawyers who built compliance products. Ex-regulators. Designers. Writers. The role is yours to define.

How we work
  • Founder mentality: Everyone owns a piece of the company, not a job description.

  • Ownership over outcomes: You decide, you ship, you answer for the result.

  • High pace: We decide in days, ship in weeks, and fix what we got wrong just as quickly.

  • Good hearts: Direct, demanding and kind.

  • Hybrid in San Francisco.

What we offer
  • Competitive salary and meaningful early-stage equity.

  • Medical, dental and vision for you and your dependents.

  • Unlimited paid time off.

  • Relocation support to San Francisco.

Harbor is an equal opportunity employer. We hire on what you can do. If you need an accommodation during the process, tell us and we will arrange it.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
