About the Role

We are seeking a Business Development Engineer to support new defense program development, with a primary focus on working with U.S Prime Contractors. This role combines technical knowledge of Automated Test Equipment (ATE) with early-stage business development and capture activities, helping ensure test, calibration, and lifecycle support solutions are integrated into government and Prime-led contracts from the outset.

This is an individual contributor role focused on upstream engagement—supporting program shaping, requirements alignment, and solution integration prior to formal contract awards.

What You’ll Do

Defense Program Development

  • Support identification and development of new DoD programs aligned to test and ATE requirements
  • Assist in early capture activities, including pre-RFP and pre-budget engagement
  • Support shaping of technical and support solution requirements prior to solicitation

Automated Test Equipment & Support Solution Integration

  • Apply working knowledge of ATE architectures and test environments used in defense programs
  • Support integration of test, calibration, training, spares, and sustainment solutions into Prime contractor system designs
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to align technical capabilities with program needs

Prime Contractor & Government Engagement

  • Support technical and program-level interactions with Prime contractor engineering, program, and business development teams
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings (TIMs), solution reviews, and early program discussions
  • Assist in aligning Prime contractor pursuits with government end-user requirements and acquisition strategies

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, Contracts, and Service teams to support capture readiness
  • Contribute technical and solution inputs for ROMs, proposals, and capture documentation
  • Support transition of awarded programs from business development to execution teams

Pipeline & Reporting

  • Maintain opportunity data and program status in CRM tools
  • Track opportunity maturity, risks, and next actions in alignment with capture plans
  • Support leadership updates and program reviews as needed
What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of experience in defense, test systems, or technical business development
  • Working knowledge of Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and test or calibration environments
  • Understanding of DoD acquisition processes and Prime contractor program structures
  • Ability to translate technical requirements into business and capture inputs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Prime Contractors on defense programs
  • Familiarity with sustainment, calibration, or lifecycle support models in government contracts
  • Background in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or technical sales
  • Exposure to IDIQs, OTAs, FMS, or other government contracting vehicles
