, is a leading provider of nutrients, lighting, and other materials used in the indoor and hydroponic growing segment.

Hawthorne Gardening Company is seeking an ambitious and results-oriented Business Development Lead to spearhead our expansion within the Lawn & Garden industry while simultaneously elevating our e-commerce presence and strategy. This role requires a unique blend of strategic thinking, deep industry knowledge, and operational execution. The ideal candidate will be a cross-functional leader, capable of developing high-level strategies, coordinating internal resources, and driving the successful execution of complex business objectives.

This will be a remote opportunity with approximately 30% domestic travel. This person is required to live in the United States.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lawn & Garden Industry Expansion

  • Market Penetration: Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to significantly increase market share and product penetration within the Lawn & Garden industry (e.g., retailers, distributors, online specialists).

  • Marketing collaboration: Identify key focus areas and work collaboratively with our marketing team to drive upward awareness campaigns focused on driving the awareness of our brands and demand creation in our non traditional markets.

  • Program Implementation: Design, negotiate, and implement effective customer programs, promotional calendars, and shelf placement/merchandising strategies tailored to the Lawn & Garden sector.

  • Sales Acumen: Leverage strong sales expertise to identify, prioritize, and secure new high-value business opportunities and key accounts.

2. E-commerce Strategy & Growth

  • Strategic Development: Formulate and lead the implementation of our overarching e-commerce strategy, focusing on channels specific to the Lawn & Garden market.

  • Digital Execution: Coordinate with our third party marketing team, category and operations teams to optimize product listings, manage digital shelf presence, and drive conversion across key online platforms.

  • Performance Monitoring: Track, analyze, and report on e-commerce KPIs, adjusting strategy as needed to maximize ROI and sales velocity.

3. Cross-Functional Leadership & Coordination

  • Internal Alignment: Act as the primary internal coordinator, mobilizing and guiding cross-functional teams (Sales, Marketing, Product Development, Finance, and Supply Chain) to ensure alignment with business development and e-commerce objectives.

  • Executive Strategy: Develop and present high-level business strategies, proposals, and forecasts to executive leadership, ensuring buy-in and resource allocation.

  • Objective Execution: Drive the successful execution of all approved business plans and customer programs, ensuring they translate into measurable business growth.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Industry Expertise: 5+ years of proven business development or sales experience, with a significant focus on the Lawn & Garden industry is mandatory.

  • Strategic Leadership: Demonstrated track record of developing and executing high-level, complex business strategies that resulted in significant revenue growth.

  • Cross-Functional Success: A history of successfully driving cross-functional support and collaboration to implement major initiatives and customer programs.

  • E-commerce Proficiency: Experience developing and executing strategies on major e-commerce platforms (e.g., Amazon, retailer sites) is required.

  • Communication: Exceptional negotiation, presentation, and written/verbal communication skills.

  • Travel:  Role is remote however travel will be required for key customer meetings 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.

The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $125,000.00 - $147,100.00. Hawthorne will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.In addition to the determined base salary, this role is also incentive eligible under our corporate bonus programs.For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.
