Job Description – Business Operations Manager

Location: San Francisco (on-site at our offices)

About Artificial Analysis

Artificial Analysis is the leading independent AI benchmarking company. We support labs, engineers and enterprises to understand AI capabilities and make critical decisions about their AI strategies. We are the go-to authority for understanding AI, from AI labs and enterprises to media, investors, and policymakers. Our benchmarks don’t just measure the cutting edge of AI, they are actively shaping the frontier.

Our benchmarks and analysis are trusted by hundreds of thousands of users and are the go-to reference for leading AI labs including OpenAI, Google, Meta, NVIDIA and Anthropic, and major publications including the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, the Financial Times and The Economist.

We are a team of 40+, on track to double by end of year, backed by Nat Friedman (GitHub, Meta), Daniel Gross (SSI, Meta), Andrew Ng (Google Brain, DeepLearning.ai, Amazon), Adam D’Angelo (Quora, Poe, OpenAI), Clem Delangue (Hugging Face) and other industry leaders.

The Opportunity

Artificial Analysis is scaling from ~40 to ~80 people this year while running the benchmarks the AI industry relies on. The operational load of that growth, from finance and contracts to onboarding and the leadership team’s operating cadence, currently runs through our Chief of Staff. We’re hiring a Business Operations Manager to own it properly.

This is not a back-office role. You will report to the Chief of Staff, work directly with our founders, sit in the room for critical leadership discussions, and be trusted with the most sensitive information in the company. The bar is an operator we would put in front of anyone: sharp, fast, discreet, and allergic to dropped balls. You will pick up problems, scope them, and run them to done without waiting for direction. And the seat has serious legs: as the company scales, this role is positioned to grow into an operations leadership position.

What You’ll Do

Own Finance Operations: Invoicing and receivables, accounts payable, expense management, monthly close with our external accountants, and clear reporting on run rate and trajectory

Own Contract Administration: Customer and vendor agreements, NDAs, statements of work and data protection agreements: run the signature workflows, track renewals, and give leadership a first-pass read on risks and key terms

Own Customer and Supplier Onboarding: Run the operational side of new customer and vendor setup: contracts, billing details, procurement, security questionnaires and systems access, so commercial momentum never stalls on admin

Run the Office and Guest Experience: Our San Francisco office, visits from the leading AI companies in the world, team events and offsites, team leave and travel: make the space and the experience reflect the brand

Run Onboarding and People Operations: Equipment, systems access, payroll setup and first-week logistics so every new joiner lands well in a team hiring ~40 people this year, and keep people and immigration operations organized alongside our external counsel

Support the Leadership Operating Cadence: Prepare materials, track actions and decisions, and keep things moving

Systematize and Automate: Evaluate, implement and own our operational tooling (expense management, HRIS, ATS and similar), project-manage compliance initiatives as enterprise requirements arrive, and replace manual processes with systems, embracing an AI-native workflow

What We’re Looking For

Required:

• Demonstrated excellence, both academically and professionally

• Fast ability to build rapport and trust with senior stakeholders

• 3+ years in business operations, finance operations, or a chief-of-staff-adjacent role in a high-growth environment

• Extreme organization and follow-through: things given to you do not come back

• Discretion and sound judgment with sensitive information, including compensation, legal and company financials

• Comfort with numbers: invoices, budgets, reconciliations, and the ability to spot when something is off

• Strong written and verbal communication

Valuable, not expected in full:

• Experience at a startup that scaled headcount quickly

• Familiarity with accounting, payroll and HRIS tooling (e.g. QuickBooks or similar)

• Experience reviewing commercial documents (agreements, statements of work, data protection agreements) and flagging risks clearly

• Experience supporting an international team across entities and time zones

• Excitement about AI and eagerness to work with AI-native tooling

Why Artificial Analysis?

Run the engine behind the benchmarks: The leading AI labs track our numbers and use them to guide their development priorities. The operations you own are what let a team with that influence scale without breaking.

Become fluent in frontier AI: You’ll work alongside the team evaluating every major model as it releases, and build a working fluency in frontier AI that few roles outside a lab can offer.

Work with the most important players in AI: Our customers and partners are the leading AI labs, chipmakers and enterprises, and your work shapes how they experience Artificial Analysis.

Join at a defining moment: We’re 40+ people, on track to double by end of year, backed by some of the most connected investors in AI. The people who join now will shape the product, the team, and the strategy as we scale.
