The Cath Lab Tech II is responsible for maintaining sterile technique and preparing for and assisting with cardiac cath lab (CCL) procedures. Performs the duties of Monitor and Scrub as specified in the CCL policy/procedure manual and is responsible for instrumentation, supplies and equipment. Provides a safe environment for the patient.

QUALIFICATIONS

License /Certification
Required:

CA Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)

BLS

Fluoroscopy permit within 6 months of hire/transfer.
Experience
Preferred: Cath Lab experience including Interventional Cath Lab.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Must meet Cath Lab Tech competency checklist requirements, or have experience in cardiac catheterization, interventional radiology and peripheral vascular procedures.

In-depth knowledge of cardiac catheterization, interventional radiology, peripheral vascular procedures/testing, mechanics and equipment.
In-depth understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) as well as Syngo dynamics.
Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures.
Ability to: prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives; work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions; identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options; build collaborate relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives; maintain equipment as needed, including inspection, sterilization, and repairs;function effectively and perform this position in an emergency situation.
 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Assists the physician in various diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures using fixed equipment. Selects proper technical factors and equipment programming according to procedural requirements.
Monitors patient and operates hemodynamic system for physiological data acquisition.
Maintains accurate and up to date records of procedures performed and other related materials.
Demonstrates proficiency in sterile technique and assures that all personnel and physicians comply with hospital / department policy.
Selects correct images for acquisition and sends to appropriate PACS system. Is familiar with and able to assist physicians in viewing images on PACS system.
Generates a preliminary cath report for reading physician containing basic descriptive and quantitative data in defined formats.
Assures hemostasis of puncture site by manual compression or deployment of vascular sealant device.
Continues ongoing education by attending seminars and in-service programs.
Provides protection according to prescribed radiation safety standards. Always inspects all equipment for physical, electrical and mechanical hazards and reports all hazards promptly.
Participates in quality improvement activities as assigned.
Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.

IF ASSIGNED TO EP:

Demonstrates competency in patient care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Under the supervision of the Cath Lab Nurse Manager and the direction of a cardiologist, the EP Technologist performs these roles:

Sets up and operates specialized equipment to include: a physiological data recording system and related computers, programmable stimulators, mapping system, various generators for ablation procedures.

Assists Cardiac Electrophysiologists in the performance of EP Lab procedures by: analyzing electrocardiograph data, performs program stimulation of the heart, induces and terminates cardiac arrhythmia by overdrive pacing or DC cardio version, applies energy to catheters for purposes of arrhythmia ablation, creates 3D maps of cardiac chambers to evaluate electrical conduction of tachycardias, enters resulting procedural data into the Cardiovascular program's clinical database.

Assists Cardiac Electrophysiologists and Cardiologists in the performance of invasive procedures related to intra-cardiac defibrillators and pacemakers, sets up sterile table, assists in the application of sterile drapes, hands sterile instruments and sutures to the physician during the procedure, performs after-care of surgical instruments.
IF ASSIGNED TO IT SUPPORT:

Maintains and manages both Sensis and Syngo Dynamics EMR operating systems.

Manages the Siemens Artis X-Ray Imaging computer equipment.

Is the superuser for all CV and Cath Lab staff.

Works closely with Siemens rep to allow for quicker diagnostics and repairs.

Helps with training staff of all new computer equipment and upgrades.

Performs database management.

Additional
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs. Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Range

$46.44 -$69.66
