The Westmed Ambulance Critical Care Transport Registered Nurse is a self-motivated role with the ability to function in a high stress environment. This role will be responsible for the most critically and unstable patients (adult and pediatric) with life threating conditions. The ideal candidate will be both a team leader as well as a team member to work with EMT’s and Paramedic’s in unique healthcare environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Assessing patients quickly upon arrival
  • Heart monitor, ventilator, invasive monitoring, infusion pumps, recording, and evaluating vital signs
  • Transporting the patient quickly and safely to a hospital or long-term care facility
  • Preparing patients for the receiving facility
  • Administering medications
  • Infusing blood products
  • Monitoring patients for reactions to medication
  • Responding to changes in the patient’s condition
  • Collaborating and communicating with other members of the transport care team
  • Acting as an advocate for the patient
  • Communicating with the hospital staff and medical team about the patient being transported
  • Performing procedures as ordered and needed
  • Consistently follows evidence based practice bundles and nursing standards/procedures to provide nursing care that eliminates preventable events of patient harm and promotes excellent patient outcomes

Requirements:

  • Social Security Card or U.S. Passport
  • California Nursing License
  • 3-year DMV print out (printed within 30 days of submittal)
  • Any valid state-issued U.S. driver’s license
  • CPR card which meets AHA guidelines at the BLS Provider Level
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider
  • Incident Command System 100 (IS-100) Certificate
  • WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency Responders (US DHS Course AWR-160) Certificate
  • Standardized Emergency Management System Introduction (SEMS G606) Certificate
  • National Incident Management System, (NIMS) An Introduction (IS-700a) Certificate
  • Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations (FRO) Certificate
  • TB test within the last 6 months
  • 2025/2026 Seasonal Influenza Vaccination record (if during flu season)
  • 2025/2026 Covid-19 Vaccination record
  • Hepatitis B Vaccination record
  • Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) Vaccination record
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Tdap) record
  • Varicella (Chicken Pox) Vaccination record
  • ** Medical Examiner's Certificate - within one month of employment
  • ** Ambulance Driver Certificate - within one month of employment
  • ** Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider - within one month of employment
  • ** Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider - within three months of employment
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Minimum of 3 year’s experience with either Critical Care, Emergency Department or Critical Care Transport or a combination of the fields
  • Ability to lift up to 125 lbs. without assistance
  • Ability to accommodate a moderate amount of standing, sitting, and walking
  • Ability to accommodate a moderate to rigorous amount of static pushing, pulling, reaching and lifting (knuckle height and ankle height)
  • Ability to hear routine ambulance and medical equipment noises.
  • Must be able to wear a commercially available respirator mask with proper fit, when required.
  • Good close and distant visual capability
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Ability to work within a 24 hour job environment

Schedule:

  • This role is per diem; scheduling will be established in alignment with organizational needs and leadership guidance

Certifications:

  • Unincumbered CA RN license
  • Current CPR (AHA)
  • Active ACLS certification
  • Active PALS certification
  • NRP within 3 months of hire
