The Role

We're looking for a CFO Advisory Consultant to serve as a long-term financial partner and advisor to clients operating under management services agreements between an MSO and its affiliated professional corporation(s) (PCs). As the de-facto senior finance team member for such clients, you'll own the numbers month over month, architect & manage the right systems, become a trusted voice to CEOs, physician leadership, and investors, and help clients navigate the capital requirements, entity mechanics, compliance boundaries, payment flows and unit economics that make the MSO/PC structure work.

Your Typical, Atypical, Day may include:
  • Oversee monthly close, budgeting, and forecasting across the management company and affiliated PC(s), month after month.

  • Keep MSO/PC economics clean: intercompany billing, cost allocations, management fee settlements, and clear guardrails between the entities to ensure compliance.

  • Advise the CEO and physician leadership on financial strategy, including capital planning, growth, management fee strategy and execution.

  • Own the finance section of Board meetings, including MSO/PC KPI dashboards and investor updates.

  • Support fundraising and M&A e.g. sizing rounds, modeling scenarios, speaking investors' and acquirers' language.

  • Keep the fundamentals sharp: revenue cycle, cash flow planning, vendor spend, controls, growth potential and audit readiness.

  • Flag opportunities to bring in Burkland's bookkeeping, tax, and HR services.

About You
  • Direct MSO/PC experience — management fee arrangements, intercompany settlements, practice-level unit economics. This is the top qualifier.

  • Other healthcare experience, particularly related to insurance reimbursements.

  • A history of managing and owning the numbers long-term, not just building fixed-fee FP&A models.

  • Experience advising through growth events — fundraising, M&A, and exits. Investment banking, venture capital, or corporate development background is a strong plus.

  • 7–10 years in finance/operations, ideally in healthcare growth sectors (digital health, telehealth, behavioral health/therapy services).

  • Excellent Excel/Sheets skills, plus strong familiarity with financial technology platforms such as QBO, Carta, Rippling, Ramp, Rillet, etc.

  • Experience with current AI tools, skills and LLMs as applied to the Office of the CFO - financial analysis, processes, accounting, reporting, etc.

  • MBA or CPA preferred, not required.

  • Strategic judgment and exceptional soft skills.

  • Candidates based in Austin, Boston, New York, or Northern California are preferred but not required.

What We Offer
  • 100% remote, work-from-anywhere flexibility. Forget the commute! We're a remote-first workplace, so you can set up your office at home, at a coworking space, or on the beach if you'd like — as long as you have a reliable internet connection.

  • Flexible work schedule to promote a healthy work-life balance.

  • A collaborative, communicative culture driven by our Core Purpose + Values. We work with incredibly smart people who love to learn and share what they know. If this sounds like a team you'd like to be a part of, we'd love to hear from you.

  • Incentive structures for referrals and business expansions.

  • New Business Bonus Program - Bring us a new client, get rewarded. If you introduce a client who wasn't already on Burkland's radar, you're eligible for a bonus — no cap on how many. If you personally do the CFO work for that client, you earn a percentage of collections on your billed CFO hours for the life of the client. If someone else on the team handles the CFO work, you still earn 10% of collections on that client's first year of invoices.

  • Cross-Sell Bonus Program - Spot a new opportunity with an existing client you CFO for, and help make it happen? Earn a percentage of collections on the first year of invoices for that new service line. Head of Finance Economic Interest - Serving as substantive Head of Finance for a multi-service client? Earn a percentage of Burkland's collections across that client's services (excluding Strategic Finance).
