Our Mission and Values

Goalbook’s mission is to empower teachers to transform instruction so that ALL students succeed.  We partner with 1,000+ school districts in 47 states, working closely with district and school leaders to improve instructional practice. Goalbook was founded in 2011 by Daniel Jhin Yoo and Justin Su.

Our first core value is Relationships. We believe in the power of human connection and the importance of relationships across different strengths, backgrounds, personalities, and identities in order to achieve our shared goals and overall mission.

Our second core value is Growth. We strive to create a supportive and challenging environment so that people are continuously growing as professionals and increasing their impact. We also believe in having the time, space, and support to grow in our personal lives as well.

This is not the typical leadership role. As a company, we have often sacrificed maximum growth in a deliberate effort to grow responsibly. We expect this role, as a member of the Executive Team, to fully embrace Goalbook’s Guiding Business Principle, which states that we strive to balance growth in three dimensions: revenue and profitability, impact toward our mission, and team experience.

Who We’re Looking For

Our people are our most valuable asset, and as Goalbook has grown, so has our operational complexity. We're seeking a business leader who recognizes how crucial well-designed systems and communication are for people to flourish and work at their best, especially for our leadership team and CEO. While K-12 education technology experience is preferred, we welcome candidates from different professional backgrounds.

As an operational leader and manager, you are able to bring together, organize, and drive a diverse set of individuals towards shared outcomes and successes. You design, implement, and oversee systems, processes, culture, and measures of progress that promote clarity, efficiency, and positive team culture. You are a clear communicator and empathetic listener who cultivates psychological safety, openness, and compassion in navigating team dynamics and challenging conflicts when driving progress and change.

Key Responsibilities
- Enable Goalbook’s co-founder and CEO, Daniel, to increase time and energy spent on visionary leadership by assuming responsibility and accountability for areas of operational leadership (specific areas will depend on candidate’s experience and expertise). Some representative areas of Daniel’s operational leadership include:

- Interim General Manager for Goalbook Toolkit (our flagship product):
- Direct manager for our Design, Content, and Engineering leaders
- Operationalize product vision, direction, and strategy defined by Daniel
- Lead, manage and improve the product delivery cycle (e.g. prioritization, execution, …) in collaboration with product leaders.
- Define, monitor, and report on team and individual development, performance, and outcomes.

- Talent Acquisition and Recruiting
- Direct manager for our internal recruiters (full time, contractors, agencies)
- Work alongside our Co-founder Justin Su, to ensure Goalbook hiring processes are being continuously improved, well-executed, and consistent with our hiring and talent principles.

- Manager Development and Accountability
- Operate existing manager development programs, learning systems, and feedback structures.
- Define and implement leveling and performance rubrics across different levels of management (e.g. front-line managers, directors, executives) in collaboration with our Head of People.
- Design and implement manager development programs in collaboration with our Head of People.

- Lead company-wide/multi-team special projects prioritized the CEO and executive team:
- Representative examples:
- Communication: Revise/establish systems of communication “up and down” and “across” the company so each Goalbook team member has better understanding and context.
- Reporting: Facilitate team defining key quantitative and qualitative performance metrics and develop a system of reporting and knowledge sharing.
- Succession: research into systems, structures, existing “role models” of how Goalbook builds a foundation to be a “forever” company

- Act as our executive “project manager” and oversee systems and processes that are designed to support the effective and cohesive functioning of our Executive Team, Senior Leadership Team, and existing company-wide communications and processes:
- Executive and senior leadership meeting agendas and facilitation
- Planning executive and senior leadership in-person gatherings
- Managing the company calendar, team-wide meetings, and existing communication systems and protocols.

- Travel to San Mateo, California, headquarters or other locations at least 2-3 times each quarter to collaborate with team members in person.

Benefits
- 160-250k base salary range, based on location and experience
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Safe Harbor 401k matching
- Flexible time off policy
- Goalbook Family and Medical Leave
- Goalbook Universal Basic Income
- A truly motivated, passionate, and fun team. We’re collectively interested in helping you grow in your career.
