Intro description:

Legalist is an institutional alternative asset management firm. Founded in 2016 and incubated at Y Combinator, the firm uses data-driven technology to invest in credit assets at scale. We are always looking for talented people to join our team.

Legalist is seeking an operationally-focused Chief of Staff to partner with our leadership team. As our Chief of Staff, you’ll be the go-to person for turning priorities into action, building and refining processes, and keeping cross-team initiatives on track. This is a hands-on position for someone who thrives in the details, enjoys problem solving, and can bring structure to a fast-paced environment.

Core responsibilities:
  • Translate leadership priorities into actionable plans and ensure follow-through across teams
  • Own and refine operational processes spanning investment operations, fundraising logistics, borrower engagement, and new business initiatives
  • Build and maintain SOPs, workflows, and documentation to drive consistency and scalability
  • Manage recurring and ad hoc projects such as quarterly onsite planning, investor reporting, fundraising webinars, and cross-team analyses (including offshore team assessments)
  • Serve as a central point of coordination for cross-functional initiatives, keeping stakeholders aligned and accountable
  • Identify process gaps and bottlenecks, implement improvements, and track outcomes to ensure continuous progress
Qualifications:
  • 6–12 years in highly operational roles, ideally within asset management, wealth advisory, RIA, or another process-heavy industry
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and bring structure to complex initiatives
  • Experience leading people or driving accountability across teams
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across all levels of an organization
  • Comfortable balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment
