Job Profile Summary

The Senior Cloud Engineer is a key member of the Cloud Services team and helps lead the architecture, evolution, and governance of ONEOK’s enterprise AWS platform. In this role, the engineer collaborates closely with peers to shape cloud strategy, influence architectural direction, and define how we design, manage, and steward our cloud environment. This position plays a central role in maturing secure and scalable landing‑zone foundations, enabling teams across the organization to deliver modern, resilient, and secure solutions in AWS. The Senior Cloud Engineer defines standards, drives automation, mentors engineers, and delivers foundational cloud capabilities that become integral to how the business operates. This role directly influences engineering teams, accelerates delivery, reduces operational risk, and establishes the standards that guide ONEOK’s cloud future.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and evolve the design and delivery of ONEOK’s AWS landing zone, core AWS platform services, and enterprise cloud architecture

  • Build, deploy, and operate foundational AWS services and shared cloud capabilities using infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform) and automated workflows that enable application and data teams to deliver at scale

  • Establish and advance cloud infrastructure‑as‑code standards, author reusable Terraform modules, and implement automated deployment pipelines from development through production

  • Own the implementation and rollout of cloud platform features, enhancements, and improvements, from concept through production adoption

  • Drive cloud governance, security, and compliance by implementing enforceable guardrails across accounts, networks, identities, and workloads

  • Partner with application, data, analytics, and AI teams to design, build, and deliver secure, scalable, cloud‑native solutions in AWS

  • Hands‑on delivery of complex cloud solutions, including networking, identity, security, and workload architectures

  • Identify emerging AWS capabilities and translate them into delivered solutions that improve reliability, performance, scalability, and cost efficiency

  • Lead complex, cross‑functional cloud initiatives, taking responsibility for execution, outcomes, and operational readiness

  • Act as a senior technical escalation point and directly contribute to problem resolution for high‑impact cloud issues

  • Mentor engineers through active pairing, technical reviews, and shared delivery, championing modern architecture, automation, and operational excellence

What You Bring

  • Deep hands‑on experience with AWS at enterprise scale, including IAM, Organizations, Control Tower, VPC, and governance frameworks

  • Mastery of infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform preferred) and CI/CD pipelines for cloud infrastructure

  • Strong background in cloud security, compliance, and change management

  • Experience supporting application, data, and AI/ML workloads in AWS

  • Ability to lead large technical initiatives, influence senior stakeholders, and set architectural direction

  • A track record of building reliable, scalable, and cost‑efficient cloud platforms

  • Experience mentoring engineers with a focus on skill growth and sound engineering practices

First 90 days

In the first 90 days, the Senior Cloud Engineer will immerse themselves in ONEOK’s cloud ecosystem, team culture, architectural direction, and active projects with cloud capability needs, while beginning to deliver meaningful platform improvements and outcomes that support project demands. They will build strong relationships across the Cloud Services team and partner groups, gaining a deep understanding of current landing‑zone design, governance models, automation pipelines, code structures and repositories, and operational workflows. During this period, the engineer will assess the existing AWS platform architecture, identify opportunities to strengthen security, scalability, and automation, and begin shaping the roadmap for future enhancements. They will contribute directly to platform operations by improving Terraform modules, refining deployment pipelines, maturing guardrails, and advancing shared services that support application, data, analytics, and AI teams. By the end of the first 90 days, the engineer will be actively influencing architectural decisions, contributing to platform standards, and helping define how the team manages, evolves, and stewards ONEOK’s enterprise cloud environment.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means becoming a trusted, collaborative member of the Cloud Services team who meaningfully shapes the architecture, governance, and evolution of ONEOK’s AWS platform. The Senior Cloud Engineer consistently delivers secure, scalable, and well‑designed cloud capabilities that accelerate application and data teams, enable active initiatives, and strengthen the reliability and stewardship of the platform. They establish clear architectural patterns, mature Terraform and automation practices, and implement guardrails that reduce operational risk and improve developer experience. Success also includes driving cross‑team alignment, mentoring engineers, resolving complex cloud challenges, and influencing long‑term platform direction through sound technical judgment and partnership. Ultimately, a successful Senior Cloud Engineer elevates the entire cloud ecosystem - improving security, efficiency, and consistency - while helping define how ONEOK builds, operates, and governs its cloud environment for years to come.
