We’re looking for a great first in-house lawyer to help us scale our business, while making sure risk and complexity don’t scale with it.

In this role, you’ll have an opportunity to build a foundation, helping standardize, streamline, and simplify the way we structure our agreements. You’ll focus on all aspects of our business and technology, including contracts with our customers, partnerships with technology platforms, and how we’re approaching data security (our most important job!)

To be successful, you’ll need to be a bit of a nerd, and be knowledgable and excited about the tech industry, and following along with the latest on cloud, AI, and regulation.

As our first in-house lawyer you’ll have opportunities to engage in other areas of the company –including employment and corporate matters – but these won’t be your initial or primary focus.

You’ll be great in this role if you:

  • A J.D. degree and 7+ years of experience as a practicing corporate counsel, with a strong background in structuring commercial agreements
  • Have spent time in-house in scaling companies, and understand the need to operate with a sense of urgency and resourcefulness
  • Are familiar with key technical legal concepts such as data residency, IP ownership, and privacy regulations
  • Are excited to engage closely as a true business partner, and don’t see legal as simply risk mitigation or the “no” people
  • Are willing to write a cover letter explaining why you’re a great fit and what in our Hex Handbook resonates with you or not

Bonus points for:

  • Bar admittance in California and/or Delaware
  • Specific experience and knowledge in data and AI
  • Exposure to other aspects of startup law, like employment, corporate, or bird law

In addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off.

The salary range for this role is: $185,000 - $260,000, depending on your seniority (we're open to levels).
The salary range shown may be a reflection of additional factors such as geographical location and skill ranges/levels we’re open to. Placement in the salary range will be decided upon completion of the interview process, taking into account factors like leaving room for growth, internal fairness & parity, your demonstrated skills, and the depth of your experience. Our Recruiting team will be able to provide more details during the interview process.
