Role Overview
We are seeking a Commercial Lending Subject Matter Expert who possesses extensive knowledge of the commercial lending market. This role involves deep understanding of the market landscape, competitive dynamics, and specific business workflows within commercial lending. You will closely collaborate with our product, go-to-market (GTM), and sales teams, providing strategic insights, guidance, and expertise to identify the high-impact segments, craft domain-specific solutions and create strategies to drive successful product launches, market penetration, and sustained growth.

Contract Duration: 4-6 months (potential to extend up to 12 months)

Time Commitment: Up to 20 hours/week (flexible)

Key Responsibilities

Market and Industry Expertise:

  • Conduct comprehensive market analysis, identifying competitive dynamics, industry trends, regulatory changes, and customer needs within commercial lending.
  • Provide expert insights into commercial lending workflows, processes, and best practices, including loan origination, underwriting, servicing, and portfolio management.
  • Specialize in areas such as Mid-market lending, SMB lending, Asset-backed Lending, Commercial Mortgage, and / or Working Capital Finance.

Commercial Lending Process Mapping:

  • Develop comprehensive mappings of commercial lending processes aligned with various roles (e.g., Relationship Manager, Credit Analyst, Operations Specialist) across the lending lifecycle stages (origination, underwriting, approval, documentation, funding, servicing, and collections).
  • Identify key inefficiencies and areas for optimization within current processes, recommending practical improvements and digital transformation opportunities.
  • Ensure alignment of process mappings with product development, go-to-market strategies, and sales enablement activities.

Strategic Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with product management teams to refine product offerings, ensuring alignment with market needs and competitive differentiation.
  • Assist in creating solution blueprints and business cases to support product decisions and sales motions.
  • Work with GTM and sales teams to develop targeted strategies, positioning, messaging, and pricing models that resonate with the commercial lending market.
  • Support sales teams by providing deep domain expertise, strategic customer insights, and effective communication of value propositions.

Industry Relationships and Thought Leadership:

  • Leverage your professional network to initiate conversations with target customers and industry stakeholders to validate product-market fit, solution design, and go-to-market positioning.
  • Guide representing the company at industry events, contributing to thought leadership activities and enhancing brand visibility.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of deep specialization and demonstrated expertise in commercial lending, including loan origination, underwriting, risk management, portfolio management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Previous experience in senior leadership roles such as Head of Commercial Lending, or other executive-level positions at a commercial lending bank or financial services firm is highly preferred.
  • Extensive track record in developing and implementing strategic initiatives in collaboration with product, marketing, and sales teams to drive growth and market penetration.
