We support 100% remote work for this role!

We’d love to hear from you if:

Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other marginalized folks tend to only apply when they check every box. So if you think you qualify, but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch.

Note: This is not a PR, earned media, corporate communications, or content/press role. This position is a media-driven communications strategy role focused on understanding audiences, defining the role of media across the full funnel, and building strategic frameworks that guide paid media activation. Candidates with primarily PR, earned media, or corporate comms backgrounds will not be a match.

As the Communications Planning Director, you will:

  • Tell Compelling Stories: Transform complex data and insights into clear, inspiring narratives that drive strategic decision-making. You’ll present data, but more importantly, you’ll craft media-led communication stories that influence clients and internal teams.

  • Break the Mold: Push the boundaries of media strategy and communications planning. Your “break-it” mindset will challenge norms, unlock growth opportunities, and fuel standout case studies. Contribute provocative strategic thinking to both priority clients and new business pitches.

  • Collaborate Like a Pro: Partner closely with Client Directors, Media Planners, and Channel Leads to ensure communications strategy is fully reflected throughout paid media plans. You’ll co-define client briefs, articulate what communications must achieve, and define the jobs to be done by media to drive business outcomes.

  • Be a Trusted Advisor: Build deep relationships with clients and internal partners by becoming an expert in their business. Your counsel will help shape the strategic direction of our work and deepen Tinuiti’s impact.

  • Be a Category Guru: Bring a deep understanding of health and wellbeing brands - what drives them, where they’re headed, and how we help them win. You’ll share category expertise across the agency, crafting comms strategies that go beyond meeting goals to overdelivering on them. Think of yourself as the architect of our category leadership, using insights and data to build strategies that drive share, penetration, and growth.

Professional Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience specifically in communications planning, media strategy, or integrated media planning. (PR, corporate comms, and earned-only roles are not aligned with this position.)

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze audiences beyond demographics—understanding drivers, values, passion points, and media behaviors using data and insights tools.

  • Experience across traditional, digital, and emerging media with clear understanding of how channels work together in integrated plans.

  • Fluency with media, consumer, cultural, and trends research tools; strong secondary research skills.

  • Ability to make strategic, data-informed decisions quickly.

  • Proven experience developing and presenting communications or media strategy to marketing and media stakeholders.

  • Strong critical thinking, facilitation, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including building formal strategic POVs.

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable navigating fast-paced, high-growth environments.

  • Experience contributing to or leading new business strategy work and pitches.
