At Terabase Energy, we believe that digitalization and automation will drive the next wave of innovation and cost reduction in large scale solar. To fully unlock the potential of this opportunity, Terabase is developing an interconnected software and construction automation platform. We work alongside project developers, owners, and engineering & construction firms to support the design, optimization, and construction of huge solar projects around the world. Our team is a blend of solar-industry veterans and newbies, thought-leaders, dreamers, software, electrical and mechanical engineers, coders, product managers, project managers, and sales and marketing professionals. We are based in Northern California, with several other offices in the United States and around the world.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Compute Engineer to own and operate the server, virtualization, and endpoint compute layer that our business runs on. You will keep our physical and virtual servers healthy, design and manage our hypervisor estate, and administer the Microsoft cloud and device management stack (Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD, Intune, Windows 365). This is a hands-on role at the center of how applications, identities, and devices connect across the organization.

You will set technical direction for the compute environment, lead infrastructure projects end-to-end, and guide other engineers. You will work closely with networking, security, applications, and helpdesk teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable compute resources — and you will be a key contributor as we add capacity to support company growth.

Key Responsibilities

•      Architecture & technical leadership: Set technical direction for the compute environment. Design scalable, resilient server and virtualization architectures, lead infrastructure projects end-to-end, and drive capacity and lifecycle planning.

•      Standards & guidance: Establish standards and best practices for the team, review work, and guide other engineers.

•      Server & VM management: Provision, configure, patch, and maintain physical servers and virtual machines (Windows Server and Linux). Monitor health, capacity, and performance, and remediate complex issues.

•      Virtualization: Design and administer the hypervisor environment (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or equivalent), host management, resource allocation, snapshots, templates, and high availability/clustering.

•      Microsoft identity & cloud: Administer Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), including users, groups, roles, conditional access, and hybrid identity (Entra Connect). Manage integrations and SSO between on-prem and cloud services.

•      Endpoint & device management: Manage device enrollment, configuration profiles, compliance policies, and application deployment through Microsoft Intune. Provision and support Windows 365 Cloud PCs.

•      Application & backend connectivity: Support backend systems and the connections between applications, identity providers, and infrastructure services. Troubleshoot authentication, networking, and integration issues end-to-end.

•      Automation & scripting: Automate routine provisioning and maintenance using PowerShell (and other scripting tools) to reduce manual effort and improve consistency.

•      Monitoring & reliability: Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and backup/recovery for computing resources. Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis.

•      Security & compliance: Apply patching, hardening, and access-control best practices. Support audits and ensure computing resources meet security and compliance requirements.

•      Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, procedures, and runbooks.

•      Collaboration & support: Partner with networking, security, and helpdesk teams; provide escalation support for complex computing and identity issues.

•      10% Travel expected (maximum)

Requirements

Required Qualifications

•      Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.

•      5–7 years of experience in systems/infrastructure/compute engineering or a similar IT operations role.

•      Deep, expert-level experience administering Windows Server (and solid working knowledge of Linux).

•      Proven experience designing and managing a virtualization platform (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, or similar) at scale — architecture, host management, resource optimization, and high-availability/clustering.

•      Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD, including hybrid identity (Entra Connect), conditional access, role-based access control, and SSO integrations.

•      Advanced experience with Microsoft Intune for device configuration, compliance, and application deployment across a fleet.

•      Hands-on experience deploying and supporting Windows 365 / Cloud PC at scale.

•      Strong scripting and automation skills, particularly in PowerShell, with a track record of automating provisioning and operational tasks.

•      Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, firewalls, VPN) as they relate to server and identity connectivity.

•      Experience designing and managing backup, monitoring, and patch management across the environment.

•      Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to lead resolution of complex issues spanning applications, identity, and infrastructure layers.

•      Experience leading infrastructure projects and guiding other engineers.

•      Strong communication and documentation skills, including the ability to communicate technical decisions to stakeholders.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

•      Relevant certifications: Microsoft Certified (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, Identity and Access Administrator, Endpoint Administrator), VMware VCP, or equivalent.

•      Experience with hybrid Azure / on-prem environments and Entra Connect.

•      Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and configuration management.

•      Experience with Microsoft 365 services and Defender for Endpoint.

•      Familiarity with ITIL or structured change-management practices.
