Summary: As a Consultant, you will serve as a trusted advisor and primary relationship lead for assigned clients, delivering strategic guidance across health and welfare benefit programs. This full-time, exempt role is responsible for managing client relationships, advising on benefit plan strategy, evaluating carrier and vendor solutions, and supporting the successful execution of renewals, implementations, open enrollment, compliance initiatives, and ongoing service needs. The Consultant also prepares and presents monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, conducts financial and trend analysis, reviews contracts and performance standards, and partners with internal team members to deliver high-quality, timely, and proactive client support.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, carriers, and vendor partners.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on health and welfare benefits, carrier/vendor products, and market solutions.
  • Act as the primary consultant for assigned clients, anticipating needs and identifying strategic solutions.
  • Negotiate terms, conditions, coverage limits, and pricing with carriers and wholesalers.
  • Review RFPs, insurance plan analyses, carrier contracts, policies, and differentiators, and recommend renewal actions.
  • Understand and articulate alternative funding strategies, including self-funded and fully funded opportunities.
  • Prepare and present consultative reporting and analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for assigned clients.
  • Conduct financial, utilization, and trend analysis, including quarterly analysis for existing large clients.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, renewal timelines, and outstanding checklist items to ensure timely delivery of client work.
  • Work with leadership to develop and execute client strategy plans and defined deliverables.
  • Oversee implementations of new business and support open enrollment strategy, employee presentations, and communication materials.
  • Provide contract review, compliance support, and legislative guidance, including COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, Section 125, and Health Care Reform.
  • Keep clients informed of relevant industry trends, market developments, and state and federal regulatory changes.
  • Conduct and present annual client compliance audits and interpret plan rules to ensure alignment with plan documents and summary plan descriptions.
  • Serve as a liaison for service, billing, eligibility, and vendor-related issues, and provide proactive customer service and HR support.
  • Prepare meeting summaries, coordinate follow-up items with internal team members and external partners, and support communication, education, and wellness initiatives.
  • Delegate work effectively to team members, review Account Manager work as appropriate, and provide informal mentorship and guidance.
  • Ensure marketing spreadsheet terms, client records, files, databases, and CRM data are accurately maintained and documented in a timely manner.

  • Strong client development and relationship building  skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment

Desired Qualifications:  

  • 5+ years direct Client Management experience in Employee Benefits industry.
  • BA/BS preferred.  
  • Experience in self-funded, core benefits, voluntary benefits, ancillary benefits, and enrollment/eligibility systems options for clients

Licensing/Certifications:  

  • Resident state Life and Health Insurance License

The base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000.  The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
