We are looking for a growth-minded Controller to join our company in the corporate accounting team. The company is positioned for rapid growth over the next several years, so we are looking for a professional who wants to make an immediate impact.   

Construction Accounting & Job Costing

  • Work closely with the project managers to ensure the timely and accurate accounting and reporting of all job cost information, including percentage of completion of projects, budgets, contracts and related adjustments, and billings. Ensure any estimate changes or projected adjustments are recorded on a timely basis. Prepare all monthly job cost and percentage of completion schedules and budget variance reports. Work-In-Progress journal entries to the General Ledger
  • Meet with the project management teams weekly to ensure accuracy of project billing.
  • Review accuracy of subcontractor and vendor billings and all appropriate paperwork (lien waivers, certifications, etc.)
  • Involvement in ensuring profitable winning construction bids.
  • Analyze trial balance to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards and process transactions as needed for month end analysis.

General Accounting

  • Oversee and execute accounting process, including internal and external billing, cash receipts postings, collections efforts and accounts payable, etc. Act as a backup and/or with work overflow.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and analysis.
  • Maintain a system for state registrations, business, and tax licenses, etc.
  • Maintain the General Ledger, create and maintain reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare and distribute 13-week cash flow forecast. Monitor the daily cash balance and daily activity.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present accurate financial reports in a concise format.
  • Ensure and/or implement adequate documented policies and procedures and financial systems with adequate internal controls.
  • Prepare for and participate in audits by external parties, including external accountants, unions, the IRS, etc.
  • Assist in the hiring, training, and organizational structure of a highly-quality, professional accounting department.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Prepare necessary reports for external parties, including banks and other creditors, insurance and surety companies, underwriters, etc.
  • Identify and undertake process improvements.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills and Education

  • Strong desire to take initiative and do whatever it takes to “figure it out.”
  • Ability to self-manage office tasks, determine what needs to be done, and do it with minimal supervision.
  • Highly Proficient with Microsoft office products, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, etc. with the ability to learn new systems with minimal training.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Professional Certification (MBA, CPA, CMA, etc.) is preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction accounting and management of a construction accounting department.
  • Working knowledge of Construction Accounting Software, knowledge of Viewpoint Spectrum is highly preferred.
  • Experience with data analytics and visualization tools  
  • Experience managing external auditors and an understanding of the requirements needed to successfully pass a CPA Audit
