We are seeking a detail-driven and experienced Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations. In this role, you will oversee property-level and corporate financial reporting, manage our accounting team, ensure robust internal controls, and partner with executive leadership on strategic business decisions. This position reports to the Director of Accounting.

About the Role: The Controller will guide financial decisions, develop, implement, and maintain financial controls, and provide financial status reports directly or through subordinate staff.

  • Prepare reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present and expected operations.
  • Work with Asset Management in the preparation and review of property budgets and monthly owner distributions.
  • Establish and maintain internal accounting policies, procedures, and risk-reduction strategies. 
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide senior management with timely reviews oft he company's financial status and progress in various programs and activities. 
  • Direct and supervise month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process which includes bank reconciliations, A/R and A/P review, financial statements, loans, mortgages, liabilities, and property, federal, state, and local taxes.
  • Assist with requests from owners, banks, insurance companies, lenders, and CPA's post annual and adjusting entries.
  • Oversee and support accounting team to improve and streamline accounting processes and procedures. 
  • In conjunction with the Director of Accounting, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards.
Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree, and 5+ years senior-level accounting/finance management experience, preferably in property management/real-estate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Excel spreadsheets or related accounting software.
  • Yardi experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of tax laws and GAAP.
