Controller

Readymode is a profitable, bootstrapped SaaS scaleup that has built a strong business without outside funding. As we scale, we're building out a finance function to match: rigorous, efficient, and built for the long term. We're looking for a Controller who takes pride in clean books, sharp processes, and being a trusted partner to the business.

What You'll Own

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across all accounts
  • Prepare and own internal financial statements and reporting packages for leadership and lead the annual audit process
  • Manage all tax filings and compliance obligations across relevant jurisdictions in Canada and the US
  • Oversee payroll processing and ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely submission across all pay runs
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures
  • Manage the payables and receivables process for the organization; track invoicing and billing for the Company
  • Own the chart of accounts, general ledger, and reconciliation processes
  • Lead the implementation of AI process into the finance and accounting functions
  • Provide guidance and support to a part-time bookkeeper
  • Collaborate closely with the FP&A Manager to ensure actuals are clean, well-documented, and ready for forecasting and analysis
  • Identify and implement process improvements that reduce close cycle time and manual effort
  • Support the CFO with banking relationships and ad hoc financial projects

Who You Are

  • 5+ years in accounting or corporate finance, with meaningful experience in a SaaS or tech environment
  • CPA designation required
  • Deep understanding of ASPE and IFRS, and SaaS revenue recognition
  • Understanding of billing platforms like Maxio and Stripe, payment gateways like Stripe and JPMC, and merchant accounts
  • Own the closing process and don’t let deadline slip
  • Comfortable building and improving processes from scratch, not just following ones that already exist
  • Comfortable with AI and investigating and implementing AI-native processes and systems to optimize the business
  • A natural collaborator who communicates clearly with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture

What We're Looking For

  • CPA designation
  • 5+ years in accounting, with SaaS experience strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with both small and mid-market accounting/ERP platforms (e.g. Xero, Rillet, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar)
  • Strong familiarity with multi-currency accounting and cross-border tax considerations
  • Strong Google Sheets and Google Suite skills

Why Readymode?

  • Profitable and growing: we're a bootstrapped SaaS scaleup that has built a strong business without outside funding, which means the work you do here actually matters
  • Build something that lasts: we're early enough that you'll have a real hand in shaping how the accounting function runs
  • Close partnership with leadership: direct access to the CFO and a collaborative relationship with the FP&A and Customer Support team
  • Clarity and structure: we run on EOS (entrepreneurial operating system), clear priorities, defined accountability, and no ambiguity about what success looks like
  • Talented team: work with driven people who value execution and results
  • Competitive package: strong compensation, benefits from day 1, RRSP matching, and a learning budget to keep growing

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
