At Misfits & Machines, the innovation sister company of Marketing Architects, we’re not just exploring what AI can create—we’re building transformative technologies that help marketers machine remarkable growth in the age of AI. Our team is obsessed with reimagining the marketing value chain through automation, machine learning, and scalable innovation. If you believe the future belongs to bold ideas executed with precision and humanity, we’d love to meet you.

ROLE OVERVIEW

This is Misfits & Machines’ first internal legal hire—a practicing attorney who will serve as both deal lawyer and legal architect. You’ll own commercial contracts, AI and IP counsel, platform governance, and the legal frameworks that let governed AI ventures ship and scale. The role spans our two AI ventures: Audiotising, an AI-powered advertising platform, and AudioKnot, an AI music licensing platform, reports to the SVP of Strategic Partnerships, and works directly with Product, Engineering, GTM, and Finance.

What you'll do:

  • Build the legal foundation: Design and own the legal operating model for Misfits & Machines from the ground up: stage gates, decision rights, governance frameworks, and the legal infrastructure that lets AI-enabled products ship with confidence.

  • Draft and negotiate personally: Own commercial contracts, product terms, creator licenses, and partner agreements hands-on, not through outside counsel proxy. This is a practicing attorney role, not a supervisory one.

  • Advise on AI, IP, and platform risk: Be the go-to counsel on training-data legality, copyright, voice and likeness risk, DMCA safe harbor, FTC advertising standards, and privacy across both Audiotising and AudioKnot.

  • Translate legal into product: Work directly with Product and Engineering to embed legal requirements before launch, turning regulatory constraints into actionable product decisions, not post-launch blockers.

Who you are:

  • Licensed and seasoned: JD with active Minnesota bar license; 10–15 years of experience including progression to counsel or partner level at a firm and 3–5 years in-house at a tech, AI, adtech, or product-led company.

  • AI and IP fluency: Demonstrated depth in training-data legality, copyright, right of publicity, voice and likeness risk, and synthetic-media issues. Not just familiarity, but enough to hold your own in live product conversations.

  • Hands-on commercial drafter: Track record of personally drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, not managing outside counsel who does it. You know the difference and so do we.

  • Product-embedded mindset: Comfortable operating without a legal team around you, and experienced working directly with Product and Engineering to shape platforms before they launch, not after.

Our values:

  • Be Unreasonable. Sound logic and reasoning are important. It also keeps people from building pyramids and rocket ships. We begin every journey being unreasonable. Setting goals of audacious undertakings. There will be plenty of time for the pundits to puke on your idea.

  • Solve Big Problems. There's only so much time in a day. And there's no shortage of shiny problems to solve, and clever ways to solve them. We prioritize big problems in need of 10x solutions.

  • Wandering is Still Work. Gantt charts can't capture the uncharted exploration needed to find the next big idea. Dedicated time to step outside the lines of our daily to-dos isn't a luxury, it's an expectation.

  • Fail Fantastically. Failing fuels winning. You don't get one without the other. It's going to take a full tank of failure to rocket past the mundane.

BENEFITS OVERVIEW

We offer rewarding careers that encourage growth while providing industry-leading benefits including:

  • Fully remote within the US

  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental and disability, with vision option

  • Traditional and Roth 401(k) with a 4% company match
