Location: Burlingame, CA
Department: Legal
Reports to: VP of Legal
Position Type: Full Time

About Peak Energy

Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven Sodium-Ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid. Sodium-Ion is abundant, safe, and cost-effective, and the leading contender in a market that is being decided right now.

Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, Apple, Powin, Enovix, Zipline, Solid Power, and Fluence. We are backed by strategic investors and partners including General Motors, TDK Ventures, and Eclipse Ventures.

About the Role

You will be the first dedicated commercial lawyer at Peak Energy and you will own the contracts that put our systems on the grid from intake to signature.

We are a team of engineers, operators, and entrepreneurs driven by a single shared ambition: set the new performance standard for renewable energy and grid resilience. You’ll work cross-functionally with sharp and fast colleagues who will expect the same from you.

What You'll Do

  • Engage directly with utilities, developers, OEMs, and EPC contractors to draft, negotiate, and close transactions.
  • Shape standard-setting complex terms for our technology: warranties, performance guarantees, commissioning obligations, and more.
  • Partner with Commercial, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and Finance. You will be an active member in their workstreams and a critical piece to advance business objectives.
  • Build templates, playbooks, and intake processes so agreement one hundred moves faster than agreement ten.
  • Call the risk. Own routine matters outright; escalate the ones with outsized exposure.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in the California State Bar.
  • 5+ years of legal experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, with a track record of running deals to signature yourself.
  • Fluency in commercial risk allocation. You know which indemnity fights are worth having and which are theater.
  • Judgment to move fast without being reckless, and to slow down when it deserves it.
  • Writing and speaking clear enough that a supply chain manager understands your advice the first time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-house commercial contracting at an energy, utility, industrial manufacturing, infrastructure, climate technology, or advanced manufacturing company.
  • Agreements involving industrial equipment, battery technology, energy storage systems, utilities, EPC contractors, or large-scale infrastructure projects.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $180,000–$235,000, with actual compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and work location.

Our competitive benefits package includes:

  • Flexible time off
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Strong 401(k) program
  • Equity opportunities
  • Competitive employee perks

Join us in building the next generation of energy storage technology while making a meaningful impact on the future of renewable energy.
